Computer storage problems. :(

Ok so I uninstalled and reinstalled into my F drive which is where I wanted the files to be sent. Then I used the advice to download the latest patches which I did. So I'm able to get into the game and into the main menu but when I try to get into the join game area it rejects me with this error message:

Ok, I have been following this for a bit, but waiting to see other comments and results before submitting my own.

I run a GeForce 7600 GS on XP pro SP3 and I had issues with some games, namely UT3 and Bioshock and the only thing that made them work was forceware 93.71 (for UT3 anyways, the demo of Bioshock I could not get to work)
I dont think this would be it, but I cant say. Standard practices say that you always use the latest drivers and such...but latest drivers for video cards are only updated for the new tech and optimized for them, not a 7 year old OS and video card several gens old. You could try that.

Also, and this came up already, make sure you F drive is configured to be the drive your using it for. If it was transplanted from another PC configured to be primary active partition, well, it could argue with the one you have. Though, from my experience, it takes the D drive slot as the Active Partition on the primary controller takes precedence. So make sure its logically configured correctly.

Next, can you run a stand alone game, not online. If it runs fine in single player mode then it's none of the above and it's another issue

So I ran the single player and I did get that Error message trying to get into single player mode as well. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr. Alright so anyone who has the time that wouldn't mind walking me step by step through the process of switching things around so it does work I would appreciate it. Ok. Folks may disagree with me but this is how I do it.

1. Back up all data except for UT2004

2. Take all programs off computer.

3. Re-install OS (including all updates and device drivers), be sure to format hard drive "C" during installation.

4. Re-load all desired programs except UT2004

5. Format hard drive(s) "D", "E", "F", etc.

6. Install UT2004 onto "D", be sure to specify the drive path when prompted.

7. Download and install 3369 patch

8. Get online and try to join game. If you can now play online, great. If not, I would look towards buying a new CD/DVD since it may not be loading correctly, especially since you also have problems with the single player game.

9. If all is working right, load your skins and voicepacks.

what demon says is the last resort but if all others options fail...which it seems to have happened! it really sux to have to do it that way and a major pain but that should fix it and if not then you have some form of hardware issue that you'll have to try and track down. maybe yank all hard drives but one load OS and then UT if works then add 1 drive at time and then find issue that way.. but maybe just a jumper on the drive and placement on the ribbon issue....or maybe gremlins

It is the last resort....all other avenues have failed. I'm worried that Fire may have a bad disc as well.

Well, if Fire would not bang the disc around when frustrated, it might not want to leave.

lol. I have one more thing to try and that's to get the disk as clean as I can and uninstall and then install again. Maybe that might make a difference. On another note anyone tell me why some files won't defragment when it's supposed to according to my computer? It's mainly the games I have on my computer that aren't defragmenting.

I had the same problem when some of my L4D files refused to defragment. I found a program called Game booster which can defragment just the program I want it to. Gamebooster can also shut down any services that aren't needed while playing games so the game will have that much more memory to use.

Alright so Gamebooster is downloaded and worked to defrag a lot of the games. Then I picked up on another one called smartDefrag. I downloaded it and am gonna start using this one over the one that came with my computer. The SmartDefrag just seems to defrag a heck of a lot more than the regular defragger I have.
