				<title>Useful Keybinds</title>
				<description><![CDATA[ I started a thread "tossing a artifact" a few months back and since then I've seen a few more helpfull binds so I'm starting a new one. I will attempt to update my first post as more come in. Feel free to add any and I will move them up here.

These binds take place in your <b>USER.INI</b> file found in your games <b>system</b> directory. Just open it up with notepad.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

<b>Tossing an artifact</b> i.e. Magic weapon maker, triple damage, lighting bolt.

In the file you'll have a section with a bunch of lines reading:
A=
B=
C=
etc...

Copy and place this line after the key of our choice
<b>tossartifact</b>

Mine looks like this <b>T=tossartifact</b>
so now when I press "T" I throw out the artifact that is showing on my screen.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

<b>Quick Communication to team mates</b>

I use this if I have a nice weapon I'd like to share. With one press of a botton I'm able to tell everyone what weapon I will share and where I am so they can get it.

Copy and place this line after the key of our choice
<b>TeamSay I'm Handing out the %W %L!</b>

This will show your current weapon and where it is.
It will look something like this ingame:

<b>FodderFigure (Main Hallway): I'm Handing out the Minigun +5 (Main Hallway)!</b>

You can edit the line any way you want to suit your needs. Some other inputs are as follows:
%L = Location
%W = Weapon
%H = Health
%S = Shield
%A = Adrenalin

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
<b>Turn music on and off</b>

Right above the aforementiond lines you'll find lines which look like this:
Aliases[29]=
Aliases[30]=
Aliases[31]=
Aliases[32]=
etc...
 Just place these two line in that section where there are some aliases that aren't used. It doesen't have to be "33" and "34" and they don't have to be one after another, they just can't be numbered the same as any used aliases.

<b>Aliases[33]=(Command="set ALAudioSubsystem MusicVolume 0.2|set input BUTTON MusicOFF",Alias="MusicON")
Aliases[34]=(Command="set ALAudioSubsystem MusicVolume 0|set input BUTTON MusicON",Alias="MusicOFF")</b>
 Now just go down and place this line after the key you want to bind it to.

<b>BUTTON=MusicON</b>

just replace <b>BUTTON</b> with your prefered keyboard button

you can change the volume to your liking by changing the 0.2 with something different.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
<b>Use a button on you mouse to activate your microphone</b>

If your mouse has more than just the right and left click butttons you can look for the section which looks like this
<b>Mouse8=
Mouse7=
Mouse6=
Mouse5=</b>
and place this line after the button of your choosing

<b>VoiceTalk</b>

Mine looks like this:

<b>Mouse5=VoiceTalk</b>

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

<b>Activating an artifact</b>
If you dont like hitting the "U" key to activate, then bind <b>InventoryActivate</b> to a key.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

<b>To bind a key and command in-game</b>

1. Open up the console (use the "~" key)
2. Type <b>SET INPUT key command</b>
i.e. If in the example above I wanted to bind activating an artifact to my "X" key I'd type <b>Set input X InventoryActivate</b>

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now that I have a Medic charater I will be switching between Medic and LW. Medic will be for small maps and LW for ONS. But I, being a slow typer, have a hard time hitting escape then SETTINGS then PLAYER the retyping my other charater name all before the next maps starts (depending on which map wins there's not much time)
Here are two ways to do this:
1. In your USER.INI file pick two unused keys and place your two names after them. Mine looks like this:
<b>GreySlash=setname [DC]FodderFigure
GreyStar=setname [DC]FodderMedic</b>
Now if I see an ONS map winning I just press GreySlash and when a small map is going to win I press GreyStar.

2. If you don't fell like doing like I wrote above or messing with the USER.INI file then open console in game and type <b>setname</b> new name

You can check to see if your name changed by hitting the F1 key to bring up the scores with the names in them. Your new charater doesn't take effect until the map changes or you log off then on again.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
<b>To fire continuously </b>

As a medic I tend to run around a lot with my finger continuously on the fire button, boy does it get tired. So here's a bind I use to set fire to run continuously without any effort.

In the Aliases section you'll find lines which look like this:
<b>Aliases[29]=
Aliases[30]=
Aliases[31]=
Aliases[32]=
etc... </b>
Just place this line in that section where there are some aliases that aren't used. It doesen't have to be "35" .
The [35] is primary fire example and the [37] is alternate fire (provided by DoctorGreenthumb)

<b>Aliases[35]=(Command="Toggle bFire",Alias="ToggleFire") </b>
<b>Aliases[37]=(Command="Toggle bAltFire",Alias="ToggleFire1")</b>

Now just go down and place this line after the key you want to bind it to.

<b>BUTTON=ToggleFire </b>
<b>BUTTON=ToggleFire1 </b>

just replace BUTTON with your prefered keyboard button

Press the button to toggle the fire mode on and off
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
<b>Frag.Stag wrote</b>

<b>Mouse sensitivity</b>
	Y'know how some computer mice have buttons to change the sensitivity on the fly? I figured out a way to do that with keybinds.

First create an alias for each sensitivity you want to use.

Code:

Aliases[36]=(Command="set PlayerInput MouseSensitivity 1.25",Alias="SnipeSense")

Just replace "1.25" with the sensitivity you want to use, and "SnipeSense" with whatever you want to call the alias. The quotes in the code should remain. (Someone please verify that you can only have 40 aliases, and can't just insert "Aliases[40]..." to get more?)

Now, find the key you want to use and set it equal to "name" (whatever you names the alias. You should set up two sensitivity aliases and set up your keybinds so you can switch between them. You could try using the switch technique, with the:

Code:

Aliases[36]=(Command="set PlayerInput MouseSensitivity 1.25|set input [key] FragSense",Alias="SnipeSense")

In this case there would be a second alias call "FragSense" that would act similarly, and [key] would be replaced by the key you were using to toggle sensitivity.

Hope it's useful. Could definitely save money on having to buy one of those fancy mice.

<b>Change Field Of View</b>

 so say you wanted to use h to toggle the fov between 120 and 80, the aliases would look like this:

alias[]=(command="fov 120|set input h fov_down", alias="fov_up")
alias[]=(command="fov 80|set input h fov_up", alias"="fov_down")

then you'd set h equal to one of the aliases

h = fov_up

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

<b>320 keybinds</b>

Switch between wanted weapon and best weapon
Aliases[36]=(Command="SwitchWeapon x | OnRelease switchtobestweapon",Alias="youralias")

<b>Change Field Of View, change weapon and mouse sensitivity</b>

 This Alias will switch the field of view to 80 and lower the mouse sensitivity while brining up the lightning gun or sniper. When you release, it will switch your field of view and sensitivity back. This is a great keybind for snap-shooters. As always, your mileage may vary and you will have to experiment to dial in the settings that work best for you (meaning entering exiting the game several times). Some people may not like the jarring effect of the fov switch.

Another thing, this keybind will switch between the sniper and LG each time you press it. I check to see which is better, but I honestly prefer the LG most of the time. So unless I get a sniper 3 or better, I go with LG.

Aliases[38]=(Command="fov 80 | set PlayerInput MouseSensitivity 2.0 | Switchweapon 9 | OnRelease set PlayerInput MouseSensitivity 3.0 | OnRelease fov 95",Alias="zoomlight")

Then, somewhere else in my user.ini, I have this alias bound to my E key.

E=zoomlight

That's all there is to it!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
<b>Ooo writes</b>
These are not keybinds but are good tips I think you may like:

Dont you just hate it when half way through a mic conversation, you are drowned out by Microsoft Mary or Sam for those of you who are politically correct . Well there is a setting in the User.ini to reduce or raise the Text to Speech volume.

In the User.ini under the heading[Engine.PlayerController] is the setting TextToSpeechVoiceVolume, I have set mine to =0.400000

Another good tip is changing the crosshair on the vehicle, to do this go to:

User.ini look for:

[Onslaught.ONSHoverTank]
CrossHairColor=(B=0,G=255,R=0,A=255)
CrosshairX=32.000000
CrosshairY=32.000000
CrosshairTexture=Texture'ONSInterface-TX.tankBarrelAligned'
bDesiredBehindView=True
TPCamDistance=600.000000

Just delete this Texture'ONSInterface-TX.tankBarrelAligned' and either leave blank if you use the same crosshair for all weapons. Or replace it with another crosshair texture.

Examples of Crosshair Textures :

Crosshairs.HUD.Crosshair_Cross1 [1 to 5]
Crosshairs.HUD.Crosshair_Circle1 [1 to 5]
Crosshairs.HUD.Crosshair_Triad1 [1 to 5] Just replace the 1 with a number from 1 to 5.

There are many more crosshair textures, just have a look through to find the one that suits.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
<b>Continuum writes:</b>

this one Activates an artifact and switches to weapon 9 (lightning or sniper) then onrelease switches to weapon 7 (flak) and if you held the button down a while then the Artifact will turn off.

Obviously not much good for use with artifacts besides the triple (and perhaps lightning rod) and it takes a bit or trying to get the sniper or lightning to shot before releasing but it does some serious damage if you start with a locked avril before pressing it.

Alias
Aliases[36]=(Command="ActivateItem|PipedSwitchWeapon 9|OnRelease SwitchWeapon 7|ActivateItem",Alias="DamageCombo")

Then just assign a key to activate DamageCombo

ie

R=DamageCombo

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
<b>Fro13 writes:</b>

 This one will go back the previous item and activate it. Good for people with ghost.
Aliases[36]=(Command="PrevItem|ActivateItem",Alias="AntiGhost")

This one will activate the artifact your at and the next artifact. So you can turn on globe and triple at the same time, or whetever other 2 artifacts that are together.
Aliases[37]=(Command="ActivateItem|NextItem|ActivateItem|PrevItem",Alias="DuoArt")

That looks like an old UT99 command line (I had one similar to it, which would even point it at the ground and auto fire it), and there really would not be much of an equivilent in the normal UT2K4.

This is a bit odd. Apparently the 'switchtolastweapon' command does not work or is not allowed on the DC server. I tested on several other servers both with the alias and by typing it in the console window. On all other servers it works.

I think the 'onrelease' command may not work as well.]]></description>

I checked the Mysterial's RPG forum for it as well and confirmed it can't be done currently (although Mysterial agreed it was a good idea).

GreyStar=setname [DC]FodderMedic</b>

<b>Aliases[35]=(Command="Toggle bFire",Alias="ToggleFire") </b>
Now just go down and place this line after the key you want to bind it to.

<b>BUTTON=ToggleFire </b>

just replace BUTTON with your prefered keyboard button

Press the button to toggle the fire mode on and off]]></description>

Yeah man. I use 120, and it's great. Feels a lot faster, too. It's weird playing on someone else's machine now, their game seems messed up :-O]]></description>

I'm using a Razer Diamondback and I highly recommend it. They have since come out with a new mouse, the Copperhead, and I'm sure it's just as good if not better than mine.

				<title>Re:Useful Keybinds</title>
				<description><![CDATA[ Y'know how some computer mice have buttons to change the sensitivity on the fly? I figured out a way to do that with keybinds.

First create an alias for each sensitivity you want to use.

<span class="genmed"><b>Code:</b></span><br>
		<div style="overflow: auto; width: 100%;">
		<pre>Aliases&#91;36&#93;=&#40;Command="set PlayerInput MouseSensitivity 1.25",Alias="SnipeSense"&#41;</pre>
		</div>

Just replace "1.25" with the sensitivity you want to use, and "SnipeSense" with whatever you want to call the alias. The quotes in the code should remain. <i>(Someone please verify that you can only have 40 aliases, and can't just insert "Aliases[40]..." to get more?)</i>

Now, find the key you want to use and set it equal to "name" (whatever you names the alias. You should set up two sensitivity aliases and set up your keybinds so you can switch between them. You could try using the switch technique, with the:

<span class="genmed"><b>Code:</b></span><br>
		<div style="overflow: auto; width: 100%;">
		<pre>Aliases&#91;36&#93;=&#40;Command="set PlayerInput MouseSensitivity 1.25|set input &#91;key&#93; FragSense",Alias="SnipeSense"&#41;</pre>
		</div>

In this case there would be a second alias call "FragSense" that would act similarly, and [key] would be replaced by the key you were using to toggle sensitivity.

Hope it's useful. Could definitely save money on having to buy one of those fancy mice. :) ]]></description>

I've played with it a bit. My default fov is currently 95 and I have a keybind that will change it to 80 and onrelease, set it back to 95. Fov 80 is the minimum btw, so you can't get a free zoom. When trying to combine this with a switch weapon command, I started running into limitations.

For example, I tried to switch to the shock and change my fov to 80, then onrelease, switch back to flak and fov 95. It would switch back to flak but leave my fov at 80.

I also played with some piped commands and the mouse wheel but ran into similar problems.

What you could do is set fov and weapon to the number keys, I believe, but I need either a button or the mouse wheel to change weps. The numbers are too slow for me.

				<title>Re:Useful Keybinds</title>
				<description><![CDATA[ The guide linked at the top says how, though not directly. The basic idea is to create aliases that reassign the key to each other.

so say you wanted to use h to toggle the fov between 120 and 80, the aliases would look like this:

<i>alias[]=(command="fov 120|set input h fov_down", alias="fov_up")
alias[]=(command="fov 80|set input h fov_up", alias"="fov_down")</i>

then you'd set h equal to one of the aliases

<i>h = fov_up</i>

In other news, I wrote a couple of scripts to toggle the detail. Now if I get on a big map that's killing my framerate, I just hit a key and my game looks like crap! :D

				<title>Re:Useful Keybinds</title>
				<description><![CDATA[ Someone asked for this keybind in the game.

<b>Aliases[38]=(Command="fov 80 | set PlayerInput MouseSensitivity 2.0 | Switchweapon 9 | OnRelease set PlayerInput MouseSensitivity 3.0 | OnRelease fov 95",Alias="zoomlight")</b>

Then, somewhere else in my user.ini, I have this alias bound to my E key.

<b>E=zoomlight</b>

That's all there is to it!]]></description>

				<title>Re:Useful Keybinds</title>
				<description><![CDATA[ These are not keybinds but are good tips I think you may like:

Dont you just hate it when half way through a mic conversation, you are drowned out by <b>Microsoft Mary</b> or <b>Sam</b> for those of you who are politically correct :D . Well there is a setting in the <b>User.ini</b> to reduce or raise the <b>Text to Speech </b> volume.

In the <b>User.ini</b> under the heading<b>[Engine.PlayerController]</b> is the setting <b>TextToSpeechVoiceVolume</b>, I have set mine to <b>=0.400000</b>

Another good tip is changing the crosshair on the vehicle, to do this go to:

<b>User.ini</b> look for:

[Onslaught.ONSHoverTank]
CrossHairColor=(B=0,G=255,R=0,A=255)
CrosshairX=32.000000
CrosshairY=32.000000
<b>CrosshairTexture=Texture'ONSInterface-TX.tankBarrelAligned'</b>
bDesiredBehindView=True
TPCamDistance=600.000000

Just delete this <b>Texture'ONSInterface-TX.tankBarrelAligned'</b> and either leave blank if you use the same crosshair for all weapons. Or replace it with another crosshair texture.

Examples of <b>Crosshair Textures</b> :

Crosshairs.HUD.Crosshair_Cross1    [1 to 5]
Crosshairs.HUD.Crosshair_Circle1    [1 to 5]
Crosshairs.HUD.Crosshair_Triad1     [1 to 5]     Just replace the 1 with a number from 1 to 5.

There are many more crosshair textures, just have a look through to find the one that suits.

No need to thank me, I take donations made out to

				<title>Re:Useful Keybinds</title>
				<description><![CDATA[ Don't know if they'll be of use to anyone else, but here are two binds I use frequently:

<b>Quick Shield</b>

SwitchWeapon 1|AltFire|OnRelease SwitchToLastWeapon

What this does is pull out your shield quickly and use the alt-fire part (the shield) while the button is held down. Then once you release the button, it switches back to your last weapon. Useful if you're taking a fall or just need to get out of somewhere. I have it bound to middlemouse.
*NOTE - SwitchToLastWeapon does not appear to switch to magic weapons to my knowledge, but this doesn't really take away from the bind's usefulness, since its primary function is to pull out the shield*

<b>Switch Between two Weapons Quickly</b>

PipedSwitchWeapon 4|PipedSwitchWeapon 9

This is a simple one: switch between any two weapons quickly. In this case, this is my hitscan bind, so I switch between shock and lightning quickly. Useful if you have weapons that you favor and want to be able to switch to those at any given time. Note that the first weapon listed is always switched to first, then the second (as would make sense). However, if the first one isn't in your inventory, then it switches to the second one.
I also use this bind with flak and rockets/mini and link. (hehe, if you can't tell, I'm a TAM/DM guy :P )

This second one DOES WORK with magic weapons.
Remember that:
1 = Shield gun
2 = Assault Rifle
3 = Bio Rifle
4 = Shock Rifle
5 = Link Gun
6 = Minigun
7 = Flak Cannon
8 = Rocket Launcher
9 = Lightning Gun/Sniper Rifle
0 = Superweapon]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ Got another one, this one Activates an artifact and switches to weapon 9 (lightning or sniper) then onrelease switches to weapon 7 (flak) and if you held the button down a while then the Artifact will turn off.

Obviously not much good for use with artifacts besides the triple (and perhaps lightning rod) and it takes a bit or trying to get the sniper or lightning to shot before releasing but it does some serious damage if you start with a locked avril before pressing it. :)

<b>Alias</b>
Aliases[36]=(Command="ActivateItem|PipedSwitchWeapon 9|OnRelease SwitchWeapon 7|ActivateItem",Alias="DamageCombo")

Then just assign a key to activate DamageCombo

				<title>Re:Useful Keybinds</title>
				<description><![CDATA[ Here is a very powerful keybind:

Aliases[38]=(Command="fov 80 | set PlayerInput MouseSensitivity 2.0 | Switchweapon 9 | OnRelease set PlayerInput MouseSensitivity 3.0 | OnRelease fov <yourfov> | OnRelease Switchtobestweapon",Alias="<aliasname>")

This kb switches to a sniping weapon, changes the fov for a cheap zoom and lowers your mouse sensitivity for better aiming. You will have to adjust the sensitivity numbers to your own liking. When you release, it goes to your best weapon (in my case, the flak) and switches your fov and sensitivity back.

Where you see the <> symbols, you must enter your own info.

An example of how this can be used, you can fire an avril, hit the triple, and then hit the keybind for a followup lightning shot. On wave 6, this will usually kill a titan instantly.

Or do triple dmg + triple rockets + lightning, same deal. Or at a distance do triple + keybind + alt flak.

It's also great for snipers (particularly LA). You can activate the triple, hit the keybind and take down most low level stuff with one shot.

Works the same way with shock.

Bottom line, it enables you to deal with far away targets and close up ones alike, with minimal mouse-wheel scrolling. Have fun!

				<description><![CDATA[ Alas, the triple double is dead. It was fun while it lasted. :lol:

I can't imagine what would have happened if that combo were discovered back in the "super weapon" days of +70 % vamps and freezing weps.

Here is the keybind I currently use with LA. This can be used with LW as well, assuming you get a globe, but the super high adren cost might make it prohibitive.

Aliases[34]=(Command="ActivateItem|PrevItem|ActivateItem|NextItem",Alias="TripleGlobe")

The difference between this one and Fro's is that mine assumes you're starting from the triple (which I keep selected most of the time).

With the new triple cost of 10 adren/sec, this means this keybind eats a beefy 22 adren per second and can't be run non-stop without bottoming out. Maybe with a rage wep in special circumstances, though.]]></description>

				<title>Re:Useful Keybinds</title>
				<description><![CDATA[ So the other day I came up with a few scripts to rebind my mouse buttons depending on what I'm playing. That way I can switch from playing JunkWars (and bashing bots with a sledgehammer) to the DC server without going into the settings and resetting them myself. Each script is just a text file with the keybind commands listed in it and named for its purpose. Then, when I want to switch binds, I just type "exec &lt;filename&gt;" in the command line.

I'm having some trouble with it, though. I have a script with a line like this:

<i>Set input Mouse4 WeaponSpecial|OnRelease WeaponSpecialRelease</i>

When I attempt to run it, everything after the '|' is missed, and mouse4 is bound to WeaponSpecial. I've tried sticking "WeaponSpecial...ialRelease" in quotes, and that doesn't work either. Is there something I'm missing?]]></description>

So just assigning u to something else may not work. Assigning ActivateItem to a different key, then assigning u to something else may work. Not sure what you tried. :)]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ <p></p>

		<cite>-Jason_x- wrote:</cite><br>
		<blockquote>is there a bind that can toggle on and off display players names?for the sake of screenshots...&nbsp;
		</blockquote>
Yes, the command is <b>togglescreenshotmode</b>. It'll turn off all HUD elements for clean screenshots. For the sake of completeness, the console command for screenshots is <b>shot</b>

*does some fiddling with User.ini*
HAHA! I've found an alias for one-button screenshots! It turns off the HUD when you press the button. When you release the button, it takes the shot, then turns the HUD back on. Don't mind the freeze when you release the button; the game will capture the moment you released, not the moment it unfreezes.

<span class="genmed"><b>Code:</b></span><br>
		<div style="overflow: auto; width: 100%;">
		<pre>Aliases&#91;##&#93;=&#40;Command="togglescreenshotmode | OnRelease shot | OnRelease togglescreenshotmode",Alias="Screenshot"&#41;</pre>
		</div>
Copy that in for a blank alias entry in <i>System\User.ini</i>, and change the number to whatever number alias you replaced. Then bind <i>Screenshot</i> to whatever button you want to use. Note that the alias takes the shot when you release the button, so you can hold down the button, frame the shot, then release. I bound it to a spare mouse button for a few combat screenshots. My favorite is attached.

EDIT: I found you can also add fov changes to the alias ie <i>"fov 10...OnRelease fov 100"</i> for better shots. However, I seem to remember fov changing as being prohibited online, so it won't be very useful. :(

Also, it looks like this <a href="http://www.autohotkey.com/docs/misc/Override.htm" target="_new" rel="nofollow">tutorial</a> talks about disabling the Windows key. I'll leave it to you to figure out if you can apply it to UT2k4. Though I might see if I can unlock my other mouse buttons. ]]></description>

				<title>Re:Useful Keybinds</title>
				<description><![CDATA[ I came up with a very useful "panic button" that's already saved my bacon a few times. The bind is:

<span class="genmed"><b>Code:</b></span><br>
		<div style="overflow: auto; width: 100%;">
		<pre>switchweapon 10 | altfire</pre>
		</div>

It does exactly what it says: switch to the translocator and altfires. Be sure to hold the button down until you TL, otherwise it will just switch the the TL. If you use the bind while the TL is out, you'll immediately translocate. You could rebind your TL hotkey to this if you don't use the camera function. Enjoy!]]></description>

				<title>Re:Useful Keybinds</title>
				<description><![CDATA[ Micron: the fast answer is that the bind for public chatting is simply <b>talk</b>. For a longer answer, keep reading.

I just played with the commands in-game. Here's what I've found: <b>talk</b> and <b>teamtalk</b> are the commands for "hit a button, type a message, press Enter, and the message is sent to the appropriate chat." What they do as commands is create a terminal (not a console) prefixed with either <b>say</b> or <b>teamsay</b>. This is equivalent to hitting Tab (assuming you haven't changed Tab's binding from the default) and typing the appropriate command, then message, etc.

So, if you want the aforementioned "hit a button..." function, you would bind a key to <b>talk</b> or <b>teamtalk</b> and be done. However, if you wanted to hit a single button and send out "Medic!" on a chat channel, you would bind a key to <b>say Medic!</b> or <b>teamsay Medic!</b> No quotes are needed around your message, even if there are spaces.

Also, the default bind for Tab, the bind that brings up a terminal at the bottom of the screen, is <b>type</b>.

And now to redline the "geekometer" with a little reference!

<b>say &lt;string&gt;</b>        : outputs &lt;string&gt; to the public chat.
<b>teamsay &lt;string&gt;</b> : outputs &lt;string to the team chat.

<b>type</b> : opens a blank terminal

<b>talk</b> : opens a terminal with say at the beginning.
<b>teamtalk</b> : opens a terminal with "teamsay" at the beginning.

Note: <b>type</b> cannot have text pushed onto it, as in "type say". Hence the existence of <b>talk</b> and <b>teamtalk</b>

				<title>Re:Useful Keybinds</title>
				<description><![CDATA[ Allow me to explain: a geekometer is like a speedometer that instead measures the geekiness of one's current activities. So, posting in a thread about keybinding in UT2004 is revving the geekometer. Writing a brief guide to the chat commands and the difference between "talk" and "say" is redlining the geekometer.

And if you spend a half-hour or so hunting through the game scripting to determine that the chat commands are not aliases, but functions coded at the script level, and that the "type" function does not have an overload that takes a string as an argument and hence the console command "type say" is the same as "type"...well, as my brother once said to me, "I think you blew a geek gasket!"

So, geeking out, or nerding it up?]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ You can bind it to something, I don' t believe you can have it switch back to previous artifact...maybe a certain one like the equivalent of hitting ] or [ 4,5,6 times...but to make it go to " previous artifact" I don't think can be done ....

here's the jist....

"select>insertartifact<" switches it to an artifact and on release makes it go......
http://www.disastrousconsequences.com/dcforum/posts/list/2672.page
this thread has this stuff
in theory the bind is

Aliases[##]=(Command="SelectShieldBlast | OnRelease ActivateItem",Alias="ActivateSelectShieldBlast_or_somehintg_like_that")

then you have your ANYKEY....hah..kidding..I mean u can have any key..x y s
S=SelectShieldBlast_or_somehintg_like_that

That's what you need....
And I believe if you try binding to aliases to one key you will disable them both..o.0.
Am I right?..Cus i tried binding booth healing blast and shield blast to middlemouse..and my shield blast wont work anymore..so yeah..I should reassign them soon..>_>..
when i get home..

HOME NOW!
eg
Aliases[36]=(Command="SelectHealingBlast | OnRelease ActivateItem ,Alias="Blast")
Aliases[37]=(Command="SelectRod | OnRelease ActivateItem",Alias="Rod")

straight form my userini

then
Ctrl=Rod
MiddleMouse=Blast

I wish i had a wired multibutton mouse..:(

				<title>Re:Useful Keybinds</title>
				<description><![CDATA[ Me here with couple more binds I put in my ini...

So lets say your both a medic and an engineer right?
Both have a blast..but you always get confused when you swap which button was shield which one was healing..and by the time you remember your bodies is now that greenish evaporating stuff..o.0

Well heres a thought I came up with:
Aliases[36]=(Command=&quot;SelectHealingBlast | OnRelease ActivateItem&quot;,Alias=&quot;<font color='blue'>HBlast</font>&quot;)
....
Aliases[38]=(Command=&quot;SelectShieldBlast | OnRelease ActivateItem&quot;,Alias=&quot;<font color='orange'>SBlast</font>&quot;)

Are my binds right?...

Sooo my middle mouse is my 'bind'
ie
MiddleMouse=<font color='orange'>SBlast</font>
At the moment....so how to switch..?...easy...along with your switch name binds:
NumPad4=setname -Jasôn_X-
...
NumPad6=setname -Jason_X-

place near it 2 more binds to swap ur input

GreyMinus=Set input MiddleMouse <font color='orange'>SBlast</font>
GreyPlus=Set input MiddleMouse <font color='blue'>HBlast</font>

Ive tried it and works for me..(after a lil difficulty ..but thats cus a &quot; was missing from the aliases so they freeked out and kept reseting..)

So in theory it should swap to MiddleMouse=<font color='blue'>HBlast</font>

But yeah..Im certain someone has thought of it b4...But eh..I dont see any posts on it..so I made the bind but yeah..
 Follow the general instructions in binds..
Ie you dont have to assign these buttons...or those Aliases..as long as the Aliases match their assigned keys and key reassignment (ie the colours that match)

Also tired of play UT and you hit ur windows button and well ..desktop pops up and you cant do anything?! but hope someone took notice...
Well....If you share a computer like me and cant disable it cus well its a shared computer.... this bind may help notify ur teammates:

Unknown5B=TeamSay Oops!I hit the windows-start-button thingy by accident again, Plz someone cover me! I'm %L [This is a bind]

This will in theory look like:

<b><font color='red'>-Jason_X- (Main Hallway): Oops!I hit the windows-start-button thingy by accident again, Plz someone cover me! I'm (Main Hallway) [This is a bind]</b></font>

So yeah...Also if you see me say that ..I cant see anything you rply to me fyi..;)...so yeah...

ALSO THIS BIND MUST BE EXACTLY THE SAME ie the Unknown5B is one fo the button for the windows start...Im not certain if this varies (anyone confirm?) but essentially the input button must be the lil button that looks like the windows key

happy gaming..:D...
Now ...I go back to the game...&gt_&gt (I doubled check to see if they worked first)
So yeah ...to game!:D]]></description>

a bind with the command:

this does..:
Fish-Eye Behindview
ie--><i>Did you know that in behindview mode, you can look around corners? This works even better with an increased “field of view” (fish-eye). This keybind switches to fisheye behindview while holding down the key.</i>

(The part <i>| set input <font color='blue'>E</font> ActivateItem |OnRelease set input E Use</i> is to switch to <font color='blue'>E</font>= activate artifact...and then back to ' enter vehicle' )

This can take some getting used to as ' scrolling' weps is little diff (unlike weps..no sounds to cue when youve swapped) ..
I'll admit Im still getting used to it myself, but I find it very useful...
(My apologies on the long post....almost there..)</span>

<b>This bind, as said b4 has the draw back of: It causes a small jump in game play for split second on pressing and releasing..but NOT during holding..(depending on how many <i>|set input command</i>'s u put in it along with computer speed in general, I believe) </b>

<span style="font-size: 11px; line-height: normal">Irregardless of that..I find it very effective for scrolling through numerous artifacts...for engineers, medics and the like..(cant speak for AM's...<i>yet</i>;)..)..
ALSO for engineers..(seeing they are usually still for the actual using of artifacts..) the jump isnt noticed if your standing still

Also, as with all binds, this ' shift-key' nor the scrolls doesnt need to be <font color='green'>Q</font>, It can be used for any key...PROVIDING the reassignment of commands is one word..

Also Im not certain If it may be improved by making it an alias which you can..but I dont think its needed

Yet again, my apologies on the long post..
I just found it interesting and useful and wanted to share the idea...(Even though its very possible for the idea to be more than likely used already..just not posted)
So yeah...
..anyones thoughts?...Comments?...Cookies? :P..</span>]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ Some where in this thread i have seen there is a limit to 39 alias binds.

My workarround so far is to hijack allias 4,5 and 14.

4,5 was Turnleft/-right as i make this with my mouse movements i don't need those

14 was InventoryPrevious i have keys for InventoryNext, InventoryActivate and for tossartifact, and for the moment with my skills&experience as WM i don't need more that might change if i start another class

[edit]
if you need still more perhaps have a look at those

15 LookUp - done by mouse movement
16 LookDown - done by mouse movement
18 Walking - well who realy needs to walk slowly in this game
19 Strafe - i use the StraveLeft/StrafeRight and see no point keeping this

surly it depends all which way you have already customized your controls and which way you are used to play, but then have a look at the other aliases perhaps there are some which you can hijack which i wouldn't.]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ Some things are not quite clear to me perhaps you can help. I have since a short time ago "Loaded Weapon 2" don't know how/if that would affect the following questions.

PipedSwitchWeapon
To what does it refer to? Where is the index/array?

E=PipedSwitchWeapon 5 | PipedSwitchWeapon 4 | PipedSwitchWeapon 6
The line above gives me only Link and Shock but the Mini is missing,
if i switch it to
E=PipedSwitchWeapon 4 | PipedSwitchWeapon 5 | PipedSwitchWeapon 6
then i got link and mini but no shock!?

MouseWheelUp=PipedSwitchWeapon 9 | PipedSwitchWeapon 2
The line above gives me Sniper, LG but no Assault as it should!?

MouseWheelDown=PipedSwitchWeapon 7 | PipedSwitchWeapon 8
gives me flack and grenade launcher, but where is the avril and the RL?

When i push some of the number keys again they give me RL/AVRIL/Grenade on one number key. Is it possible to take them partly and scroll through them with the PipedSwitchWeapon?
So i get for example keybinds like
- Flak, Avril, Bio, RL
- LG,Sniper,Assault,shock
- shieldgun, Minelayer,bio?

[XWeapons.xyz] vs [Onslaught.xyz]
What and when does those settings take effect?

Priority
What does it effect exactly and when?

I also have some problems with the translocator keybinds.
This one should first beam me back to an already setted translocator and then emidiatly place a new one
Aliases[4]=(Command="SwitchWeapon 10 | Button bAltFire | OnRelease Button bFire | SwitchToLastWeapon",Alias="QuickExit")
But sometimes i got the camera view of the translocator and there is no new placed
The next should push one into the open air and when the button is released translocate me, well it does switch to the translocator andthats all
Aliases[5]=(Command="SwitchWeapon 10 | Button bFire | OnRelease Button bAltFire",Alias="FastTransport")]]></description>

I can answer a few of these

Priority should take effect when you run out of ammo for one weapon priority dictates which weapon automatically shows up next. (next lower priority)

I keybound my tranlocator too and I have to hit the button twice to get me to translocate. Mine shows the camera also on the first key press. I don't think there's a way to around that.

				<description><![CDATA[ Thanks. I did a bit research on the topic and tested some binds
Here are some sites i found quite usefull

<a href="http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=408970&highlight=keybind" target="_new" rel="nofollow"> The ultimate keybind guide! (Update 10/12)</a>
<a href="http://members.clanci.net/taleweaver/commands.php" target="_new" rel="nofollow">Advanced commands</a>
<a href="http://wiki.beyondunreal.com/Legacy:Binding_Keys#Edit_the_User.ini_file" target="_new" rel="nofollow">Legacy:Binding Keys</a>

I still have problems binding more Weapons through alliases or without.
The getWeapon command seems not to work at all. SwitchWeapon and PipedSwitchWeapon are not bad but far from what i would want.
The next i will test with the getweapon command are some unusual weapon names i have found
- Translocator 0
- ImpactHammer 1
- ChainSaw 1
- Enforcer 2
- PulseGun 5
- SniperRifle 10
- Ripper 6
- UT_Biorifle 3
- Minigun2 7
- UT_FlakCannon 8
- ShockRifle 4
- UT_Eightball 9
- WarheadLauncher 10

Some statements, general information i found in several threads.
----------------------------
... u cannot bind LShift at all. Its either Shift= or nothing at all. So the way it works is...(confirmed)

You need onrelease in every part that is supposed to run on release, not just the first in the line.(makes sense to me ^^)

I dont think you can bind more than 2 weapons to one key using the pipedswitch command.(confirmed, but there seems to be some possibilities idepending on the setted priorities, then the pipeswitch command should take upto 4 and more weapons. needs more testing )

Mousewheel doesn't like the "fire"(altfire) command. Fire| Onrelease Pipedswitchweapon 4| OnRelease Pipedswitchweapon 9
That will work an any normal key, but not wheel.(could explain some trouble i had)

Q:I've disabled all options to play my own footsteps yet I still hear them.
A:There's a bug with the bplayownfootsteps indeed: you must have weapon bobbing disabled as well, or you'll still hear it.(don't know if this is still actual)

UT itself blocks the 'set' command online.(That would explain why some of the menues i tried do not function.)

				<title>Re:Useful Keybinds</title>
				<description><![CDATA[ I just found this out:
You can setup text files for different keybind setups...very handy for those who play multiple classes.

<b>user.ini</b>
<span class="genmed"><b>Code:</b></span><br>
		<div style="overflow: auto; width: 100%;">
		<pre>
E=exec eng_binds.txt
M=exec med_binds.txt
</pre>
		</div>
also you may want to add these aliases if you play medic or eng:
<span class="genmed"><b>Code:</b></span><br>
		<div style="overflow: auto; width: 100%;">
		<pre>
Aliases&#91;38&#93;=&#40;Command="SelectShieldBlast| OnRelease ActivateItem",Alias="ActivateShieldBlast"&#41;
Aliases&#91;39&#93;=&#40;Command="SelectHealingBlast| OnRelease ActivateItem",Alias="ActivateHealBlast"&#41;
</pre>
		</div>
<b>eng_binds.txt</b>
<span class="genmed"><b>Code:</b></span><br>
		<div style="overflow: auto; width: 100%;">
		<pre>
setname Greg11
changecharacter Blue_Remus
set input NumPad6 TeamSay SheildBlasting %l
set input NumPad7 TeamSay I am Eng
set input GreyPlus ActivateShieldBlast
</pre>
		</div>
<b>med_binds.txt</b>
<span class="genmed"><b>Code:</b></span><br>
		<div style="overflow: auto; width: 100%;">
		<pre>
setname Greg11_MD
changecharacter Blue_Remus
set input NumPad6 TeamSay HealBlasting %l
set input NumPad7 TeamSay I am Medic
set input GreyPlus ActivateHealBlast
</pre>
		</div>

Reading the text file may cause a slight delay in the game but for class changes this shouldn't be an issue.

Using the separate text files definitely helps de-clutter your config too. ]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ I just finished setting up my keybinds to select my engineer artifacts such as def sent, kill all sents, wall...etc

InventoryPrevious
InventoryPrevious
InventoryPrevious
InventoryPrevious
InventoryPrevious
InventoryPrevious
InventoryPrevious
InventoryPrevious
InventoryPrevious
InventoryPrevious
</pre>
		</div>

then for my binding:
User.ini:
<span class="genmed"><b>Code:</b></span><br>
		<div style="overflow: auto; width: 100%;">
		<pre>
GreyStar=exec bind_defsent.txt
GreyMinus=exec bind_killsent.txt

Of course when you level up loaded engineer the text files will have to be modified accordingly, but it shouldn't be that big of a hassel to add one extra line to a couple of them.

				<description><![CDATA[ anyone know how to make a "wait" command for an alias? I wanted to make a toggle jump bind but you can't just have it toggle jump because it will jump once and be done. I tried the alias saying (command="Jump | jumprelease", Alias="jumprelease") as well as with an OnRelease before jumprelease but it doesn't work... any ideas?

EDIT: on second thought... that wouldn't work anyway. the loop has no cancel statement... if only it was as easyas C++ :P]]></description>

I think the exec might not play with pipes well.
maybe you can make a text file that selects pupee then binds another textfile (exec selhealblast.txt) to tab then in selhealblast.txt have it selecthealblast, then bind exec pupee.txt to tab.

did it at least activate the triple?

what if you made an alias where
Aliases[39]=(Command="exec activatetriple| OnRelease exec activaterod",Alias="triplerodcombo")

also I noticed that i have:
Aliases[12]=(Command="ActivateItem",Alias="InventoryActivate")
what is the purpose of this? seems silly, unless it is for migration between versions.

You should be able to use the text file method to toggle between chars:
To use the 'S' key for the toggle:

AM.txt:
<span class="genmed"><b>Code:</b></span><br>
		<div style="overflow: auto; width: 100%;">
		<pre>
setname name_AM
changecharacter AM_skin
set input s exec WM.txt

		</div>

WM.txt:
<span class="genmed"><b>Code:</b></span><br>
		<div style="overflow: auto; width: 100%;">
		<pre>
setname name_WM
changecharacter WM_skin
set input s exec AM.txt
reconnect
</pre>
		</div>

User.ini:
<span class="genmed"><b>Code:</b></span><br>
		<div style="overflow: auto; width: 100%;">
		<pre>
S=exec AM.txt
</pre>
		</div>

remove the reconnect lines if you don't want it to automatically switch]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ dom, I am in the middle of cleaning up my binds, but the exec command is very handy for doing what you want

I moved my bind files to a separate folder for easier maintenance.
I was spoiled when I ran it in linux because I was able to use symlinks to keep everything organized.

my user.ini is in UT2004/System
user.ini has these lines for changing characters:
<span class="genmed"><b>Code:</b></span><br>
		<div style="overflow: auto; width: 100%;">
		<pre>
Aliases&#91;38&#93;=&#40;Command="SelectShieldBlast| OnRelease ActivateItem",Alias="ActivateShieldBlast"&#41;
Aliases&#91;39&#93;=&#40;Command="SelectHealingBlast| OnRelease ActivateItem",Alias="ActivateHealBlast"&#41;
...

D=exec binds\bind_am.txt
E=exec binds\bind_eng.txt
M=exec binds\bind_md.txt
W=exec binds\bind_wm.txt
</pre>
		</div>
For those that want to know the drop adren and health binds:
<span class="genmed"><b>Code:</b></span><br>
		<div style="overflow: auto; width: 100%;">
		<pre>
Comma=DropAdrenaline
Period=DropHealth
</pre>
		</div>

ok so pressing d switches to my aDrenaline master, e for eng...etc
My bind files are in UT2004/System/binds:
bind_eng.txt:
<span class="genmed"><b>Code:</b></span><br>
		<div style="overflow: auto; width: 100%;">
		<pre>
setname &#40;DC&#41;Greg11

set input PageDown SwitchWeapon 5

set input NumPad6 TeamSay ShieldBlasting %l
set input NumPad7 SwitchWeapon 10
set input NumPad8 exec binds\bind_bender.txt
set input NumPad9 exec binds\bind_ballturr.txt
set input GreySlash exec binds\bind_defsent.txt

set input GreyPlus ActivateShieldBlast
set input PageUp exec binds\bind_wall.txt
set input NumPadPeriod exec binds\bind_smlblk.txt

When I start ut I can press the appropriate key during the title screen, or if I join a game and decide to change characters I press the key and reconnect. So if I am my AM and I want to be a medic. I press 'M' then press tab and type 'reconnect' and I will reconnect to the server as my medic. ( I could have added the reconnect to the bind, but I would most likely hit the key by accident)

They are in a weird state right now, because I just made level 15 loaded eng.
bind_killsent.txt:
<span class="genmed"><b>Code:</b></span><br>
		<div style="overflow: auto; width: 100%;">
		<pre>
SelectShieldBlast
InventoryPrevious
InventoryPrevious
InventoryPrevious
InventoryPrevious
</pre>
		</div>

bind_wall.txt:
<span class="genmed"><b>Code:</b></span><br>
		<div style="overflow: auto; width: 100%;">
		<pre>
SelectShieldBlast
InventoryPrevious
InventoryPrevious
InventoryPrevious
InventoryPrevious
InventoryPrevious
InventoryPrevious
InventoryPrevious
InventoryPrevious
InventoryPrevious
InventoryPrevious
InventoryPrevious
InventoryPrevious
InventoryPrevious
</pre>
		</div>

bind_smblk.txt:
<span class="genmed"><b>Code:</b></span><br>
		<div style="overflow: auto; width: 100%;">
		<pre>
exec binds/bind_wall.txt
InventoryPrevious
InventoryPrevious
InventoryPrevious
</pre>
		</div>

basically the only bind command that is reliable is SelectShieldBlast.
from there each bind file will press the InventoryPrevious key however number of times needed to get to the correct item.
As trooper pointed out though, if you use the bind file to activate an item, it will not continue past activation.
The bind files are also good for making a toggle. For instance you can have a single key that will rotate through specific weps like shieldgun, flack, rocket.

Would we be able to put binds onto a macro keyboard? And most inportantly have them funtion correctly.
<i>I have a Logitect G15</i>. Not cheap, but its a great Gaming Keyboard.

P.S. I have been on the server for the past few days. I had to start new chars due to me changing my CD key.
So I am no longer Swimy. =(
My medic is <i><b>Jinkoo</b></i>

Yours looks the same.

I have <i>one</i> question.
Would we be able to put binds onto a macro keyboard? And most inportantly have them funtion correctly.
<i>I have a Logitect G15</i>. Not cheap, but its a great Gaming Keyboard.

<img src="http://www.lannerscafe.com/img/g15.jpg" border="0">

P.S. I have been on the server for the past few days. I had to start new chars due to me changing my CD key.
So I am no longer Swimy. =(
My medic is <i><b>Jinkoo</b></i>
and my Wep Master is <i><b>Jinkoe</b></i>

Hope to talk to some of you guys soon. &nbsp;

One trick I have done in the past (and am doing right now as I type) is to produce lines like this in my User.ini

<span class="genmed"><b>Code:</b></span><br>
		<div style="overflow: auto; width: 100%;">
		<pre>
UnknownB6=SAY UnknownB6
UnknownB7=SAY UnknownB7
</pre>
		</div>

That way, when I push I key, I can tell what key UT thinks it is.

BTW... I use the G15 myself, and you could always record a macro and assign it to a given key, which entered a command via the command line...

				<description><![CDATA[ Is there a way to find out what the proper variable name is for each mouse button? For instance, I just got a new mouse that has two buttons (back and forward) in addition to left and right click, but this is what the mouse section of my user.ini file looks like:

LeftMouse=Fire
MiddleMouse=MoveForward
RightMouse=AltFire
MouseWheelDown=NextWeapon
MouseWheelUp=PrevWeapon
MouseX=Count bXAxis | Axis aMouseX Speed=2.0
MouseY=Count bYAxis | Axis aMouseY Speed=2.0
MouseZ=

I assigned the foward button to activate artifact through the settings menu, and it was labeled "Right" (which is odd because the user.ini file says "Right=StrafeRight".) The other button is identified as left. If I want to assign a command through the user.ini file, would I add "Right=" or "Left=" underneath MouseZ in order for it to be recognized? Or is there any way to find out the actual names of these buttons as recognized by the program?

Thanks.]]></description>

				<title>Re:Useful Keybinds</title>
				<description><![CDATA[ When I first tried binding the InventoryActivate command to my mouse button, I took one look at the list of mouse buttons in my User.ini file and just closed it. Too confusing, with no way to tell which variable corresponds to which mouse button. So I did it a different way.

If you go into Settings->Input in UT, and hit Configure Controls, click on a blank space for any command (as though you were about to set an input for it) and then hit one of your mouse buttons. The key that will appear in the space is the identifier that UT will recognize as an input. You can repeat this for all your mouse buttons, and write down the identifiers somewhere, then clear whatever command you were using.

I never tried adding these identifiers to my User.ini (back when it still existed on my computer :-w ) because I didn't want to screw anything up, so I used the in-game console instead. Open it up with ~, and type (without the quotes) "set input [key] InventoryActivate", with [key] being the identifier you found for your desired mouse key.

I can verify that this method does work; I bound both extra buttons on my mouse in this way. And going into Configure Controls is, as far as I know, the only way to find out the exact identifiers UT is using for your mouse inputs.]]></description>
