I'm not sure what's happening there. I recall seeing something about some mods not working with international versions of the game correctly if they attempt to use the font files directly, but I'm not sure which ones might be the culprits.

If you can contact me via xfire (jefejefejefe) I can try troubleshooting it with you.

Ah... the highest level message doesn't mean anything. I cleared it when I was working on the RPG file. It just records the highest level character that leveled up recently, and that happened to be a bot. Everyone's data is still there. ;)

Also to clarify, since this gets asked a lot, if you have the Magic Vault skill, then sometimes you'll randomly get special weapon enchantments that you wouldn't get otherwise. The skill takes effect whenever you spawn, pick up weapons or use a MWM, so you won't notice anything when you first buy the skill.

DC characters are live on the server right now. Are your characters missing?
If so, I need the exact name of the character(s) so I can look up the data from the DC backup file.

Also, I posted this in the Gametracker thread, but not here, but if I noticed you had a character on both D-E-K and DC above level 40 or so, I added some bonus levels if I could tell if it was the same person. In some cases the names were slightly different, and I gave the bonus levels to the higher level character and deleted the lower one. If you had an alt on D-E-K, your data might be under that name. I also deleted a number of level 5-15 characters as I worked through the file, since the server now starts you at level 15.

Wow, I didn't know these forums were coming back! This is great. I'd just like to express my thanks to Druid and Shantara for letting us continue the DC mantle, and for bringing the DC website back. :) There is a lot of history on these forums, as well a wealth of information.

I'd like to welcome everyone to the new server. As Demon mentioned, we are still in the process of getting everything merged, but I have already migrated player data over. If you experience any issues with your characters, please let me know either here or on the server thread and I'll attempt to fix it for you.

You can see the thread about the merger here: http://www.gametracker.com/clan/D-E-K/forum.php?post=342696

Re:how to get a serial?

Webadmin access is pretty basic, and doesn't allow for much beside switching maps and game modes, and banning/unbanning players. I assume that's the only access the admins have here.

The real power to change and set up things, and fix issues like changing Hatter's RPG characters, is having access to the server files via FTP and access to the control panel to configure and start/stop the server. As far as I know, only Druid and Shantara have access to that. As a server owner myself, I understand the potential chaos giving people access to the functions could cause. So if they were to give someone access, it would definitely need to be someone they trust implicitly.

As a result, things like configuring monster waves, adding new maps, updating the RPG system and configuration can't be done without their direct involvement.

But the server will continue to function as long as the bills are paid. Just without any updates or adjustments.

GoldenEye 007 Caves

 GoldenEye 007 Caves Beta 1

This is the Caves multiplayer map from GoldenEye 007, the classic Nintendo 64 shooter.

Meowcat made a port of this map as part of his YARM map pack. I asked him if I could fix it up, and he said 'Go for it.' That was back in Summer 2011. 8-| About 2 weeks ago I decided to actually work on it. I polished up the map, doing the lighting, textures, deco, sounds, etc. I scaled it up (by 1.5) for normal UT2004 play.

I included 3 OGG music files with this map. Yes, 3! Looping versions of Caverns, Streets and Facility from GoldenEye. You can can actually pick which song you want to hear in-game. In the large open area, you'll see five ferns up on the cliffs. Shoot them to select one of 5 songs. You can also pick the song from DM-PerfectDarkTemple, or one of the default UT2004 tracks, KR-Sulphur.

The map normally will play the Caverns song, if you want the map to play a different song by default, rename one of the other ogg files GoldenEye-Caverns.ogg.

Re:Dragon7350's Custom Skin: Zeltas

When you import a texture to unreal ed, you can indicate if it's supposed to be an "alpha texture" so that it's displayed see-through by default, but you don't have to check that box. You can still use that texture's alpha data when you set up your shaders. There really isn't such a thing as a specular texture, it's just an effect created by combining an environment map with a base texture using alpha data (which could come from the base texture) to control how shiny it is.

I think you should release this skin on Epic's forums too.

Re:Dragon7350's Custom Skin: Zeltas

It looks great for your first character. I like the details on his body, the only thing I think is a little off is the color scheme on the clothing. It looks a little like a biker in spandex, but otherwise I love how it turned out.

Technically I do see some minor issues. First, I see that you're using 2 1024x1024 DXT5 compressed textures for the base textures, but you're also using two separate DXT5-compressed 1024x1024 textures for specularity. This increases your texture use and texture package size unnecessarily. There's no reason to use DXT5 if the texture doesn't contain an alpha layer. Either add the alpha to one of the base textures (preferably the non-team color skin) or or compress the base textures to DXT1. You could then use the separate alpha texture, which doesn't have to be 1024x1024 btw, it could be smaller, on all the team skins for your shaders and final blends.

Also I see that the ukx file is set to display the skin textures. There are a couple of good reasons change it so that textures are cleared from the ukx. Whenever you update game files, like UKX or UTX files, you must rename the files for proper compatibility (for example on the svn, or any servers pushing the skin). So if you revise the texture, you now must revise the ukx because it will still require a texture with the original name. UPL and INT files are exempt from this rule. It also makes it a bit more difficult for skinners to release updates, unless they also release a modified ukx. (I've had to do that a few times.)

Beside those minor details, and none of them are game-breaking, it's one of the best custom characters to come out in recent years. It's far better than I expected from the first screenshots.

Re:Skin FAQ (Installing, server usage, and more)

Demon is correct. Displaying skins is a client-side process and there is no way to make other players see you as a specific default character if they don't have the custom skin you're using. They will always see their selected default characters.

Speaking of that, it is possible for players to change their default characters the official way from a small list of choices, and it's also possible for a player to force all players to appear as their default choice -- but only if they also use their default choice.

Forcing Default Models in UT2004
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Forcing default models is when you pick from a list of, well... default models & edit your UT2004 files so that everyone you see `in-game` is that person. There are various reasons people want to do this, ranging from visibility of characters, to frames per second (fps) performance, to reducing game jitter when a new player enters the game.

Example: a popular forced model is Gorge because of his `easy-to`-see characteristics. To someone forcing Gorge, everyone is gorge.

The forced models can only be ones taken from the following list:

Allowed Default Models
----------------------
Female skins
Tamika
Ophelia
Sapphire
Rylisa

Male skins
Jakob
Gorge
Malcolm
Rapier
Roc
Mokara
Brutalis
----------------------

Hey, I don't make the rules, so don't complain to me if the list doesn't have a lot of variety. ;-)
Remember, I'm a custom content freak, so I never force default models. Which reminds me... I need to warn you before we go any further...

****** WARNING ******

Forcing default models will turn every character you see `in-game` to the one (sometimes 2) models that you specify. If you have installed any custom skins or models, you will not be able to enjoy them while the forced models are enabled. Custom skins are not 'forceable.' I suggest saving a backup copy of the User.ini and UT2004.ini files before making ANY modifications, that way you can revert to 'the way it was' if you mess something up.

****** /WARNING ******

Ok so let's get on with it...

We'll be dealing with 2 files:

C:UT2004SystemUser.ini
C:UT2004SystemUT2004.ini

1. Open User.ini in Notepad
2. Do a search for [XGame.xPawn]
3. Check the lines below [XGame.xPawn] & modify them until you get:

[XGame.xPawn]
PlacedCharacterName=Gorge
PlacedFemaleCharacterName=Rylisa
bPlayOwnFootsteps=False
bUnlit=True

// Note: bUnlit=True will brighten up the skins a bit.

3a. While you're at it, search for [Engine.Pawn] in the User.ini, & make sure the line below it looks like:

[Engine.Pawn]
bNoCoronas=False

// This will also help visibility of skins.

4. Save & close.
5. Open UT2004.ini in Notepad
6. Search for [UnrealGame.DeathMatch]. If it's not in there, add it somewhere.
7. After you find/add that line, alter your UT2004.ini to reflect the following:

[UnrealGame.DeathMatch]
bColoredDMSkins=True
bForceDefaultCharacter=True

8. Save & close. You should now be showing 1 model for everyone.
9. If you want to change the model you're forcing, go back into User.ini & modify the line

[XGame.xPawn]
PlacedCharacterName=Gorge

to the model you want to see. An example would be:

[XGame.xPawn]
PlacedCharacterName=Mokara
PlacedFemaleCharacterName=Rylisa

I would recommend playing around with these 2 lines to get a feel for how they will effect your game.
Use the list of allowed default models to experiment.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Using the Console to Force Default Models in UT2004
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

You can also use the console to set the default skin. Note that the quick console will not allow these operations.
You must pull down the console by hitting the ~ key (default).

Once your console is open, you'll need to enable the default character setting by typing:

set UnrealGame.DeathMatch bForceDefaultCharacter True

To turn them off, you would open the console & type:

set UnrealGame.DeathMatch bForceDefaultCharacter False

Then you set your default character...

set XGame.XPawn PlacedCharacterName *
or
set XGame.XPawn PlacedFemaleCharacterName *

...where * can be a character name from the lists mentioned previously (remember the gender separation)

You can use these console methods to set up keybinds if you're so inclined.

NOTE: On servers enabling `Anti-TCC` or other cheat protections, the "set" command may be disabled, so be sure to do your modifications offline or on another server prior to joining.

Now it's also possible to use my technique to make everyone appear as the custom character of your choice, but keep in mind, they'll still see you as Jakob or whatever default you chose to change, even if they have your custom skin installed, since you must use the skin you are forcing.

However, if you can get your skin added to the DC skin pack SVN, any player who uses the SVN will see your skin, in addition to players that have installed your skin the normal way.
