I have a friend thats try'n to get UT on his linux box and is have'n probs connecting/verifying cd-key with main server...is there by chance any port settings that you need to do??.....hmmm better dig my book out!!!
But all help would be appreciated! the copy he has is supposed to be a good copy purchased from a co-worker
I may be getting old and falling apart but I can sure can raise Hell and have fun doing it!

sounds like his key has been banned two people have it and tried to use it at the same time is usually the culprit

I have the DVD version of the Editors Choice Edition. It has an installer for linux. From what I understand, the earlier versions don't have the installer, and may require some work to get installed.

Do you know what distro he is using?
Is he using wine to install, or did he use a installer script?
(wine is a program to allow installing/running programs as if he was running windows.)

Make sure he has the latest patches :v3369 is the latest.
check ut2004/system/ut2004.ini for these lines:

it is likely that ut2004 was installed in /usr/local/games

he shouldn't need to open a port, because it is an outgoing port.

It could be like what road mentioned and they guy gave him a banned key.
