True Blood

Does anyone else here watch HBO's show True Blood?

I don't have HBO so I had never heard of it until recently, but a good friend of mine and his wife suggested I check it out.

The wife and I rented the first two episodes a few weeks ago and watched them. At first we thought, "meh". The next night as we were getting ready for bed, we both looked at each other and said, "do you have this urge to rent the next couple episodes?". We did just that, and after the fourth episode we were hooked.

For anyone who doesn't know what the show is about, it's basically about vampires. Set in the present in the deep south, vampires have revealed their existence to humans and have started trying to merge with "normal society". Thanks to a company which invented synthetic blood, they don't need to feed on humans any more. Needless to say, not all of the vampires agree on not hunting humans.

The show started off rather slowly, to develop characters more or less, but gets going and has great twists. The main characters are wonderfully dysfunctional.

I admit that the show is a wee bit soap-opera-ish at times, but there is enough action, humor, and suspense to make it work. The writing is great, the acting is solid, and above all else the show is very entertaining.

My wife HATES anything to do with vampires, monsters, etc., but she LOVES this show. We finished all 12 episodes of the first season and are now eagerly awaiting season 2 on DVD.

Check it out on DVD for the first season. You may be suprised that you like it even if you normally aren't into shows like this.

Oh, and DEFINITELY NOT a show for kids.

wombat and i are TOTALLY ADDICTED!!! we watch that show every time it comes on! I have to say Eric is my all time fav! him and Lafyette!! anyways yes! your not alone! we LOOVE the show! and are eagerly awaiting season 3!
