Hi all . Well what this forum title says is true. Still learning how to work the skins and the models. I've got to know the difference between a skin and a model. Are they the same or what? I wanted to create this topic so I didn't have to dig all they way in the back for it. I have alot of q's so here I go!
1. Are the skins and models are the same?
2. Which one is usable for ut?
3. How do I get the models working-I have a clone model I want to try.
4.How do I get the skins to work- I have a clones skin I want to use.
5. What do you like to use?
6. What is your personal skin/model you like to use (include link is optional)
7. Which one is easier to use/download?
8. After I download the skin/model how do I get it to work?(Like play it on UT-->DC-->other servers)
You don't have to answer all of the questions but it would be great if you do .
Please share your "secrets" I will try not to tell (not always guaranteed though)

1. Are the skins and models are the same?
no, skin means a layer of paint in characters, that change the view but not the pearson it self. and example you can take gorge and make a new skin that make him red
a model is something new for example, have you evern seen yoda? the small character that i use?
2. Which one is usable for ut?
both can be used
3. How do I get the models working-I have a clone model I want to try.
you can make models using maya, or 3d studio, however you must convert those models into ut2k4 files in order to work
4.How do I get the skins to work- I have a clones skin I want to use.
convert those skins into u2k4 files using a special program
5. What do you like to use?
i like my model
6. What is your personal skin/model you like to use (include link is optional)
i use yoda and hatter (look at my sign)
7. Which one is easier to use/download?
both are easy to download and use.
8. After I download the skin/model how do I get it to work?(Like play it on UT-->DC-->other servers)
just install the proper files on the proper folder, an example, all files ending in .uc means they go to the folder system (that folder is the one goes whereever you instaled ut2k4
You don't have to answer all of the questions but it would be great if you do .

Shantara wrote a FAQ about skin and model usage:
http://www.disastrousconsequences.com/dcforum/posts/list/2341.page
Most of your questions are covered in the FAQ. There is also a forum devoted to skins, where people post which skin they use. Convenient, huh? Perhaps you should check it out.
1. Are the skins and models are the same?
No, although many use the terms interchangeably. The unique shape and animations of a character make up the model (Think sculpture.) A skin is a texture that can be applied to a model (Think paint job.)

5. What do you like to use?
My way of skinning:
1. Open uPaint (found on disk 6 on install CDs.)
2. Click OPEN then find the character to be edited
3. Click FILE -> SAVE AS then save as a new name
4. Click on pane with the head
5. Click FILE -> EXPORT TEXTURE (this makes a head ".upt" file in the CHARACTERS folder.
6. Do the same for the body pane
7. Open UnrealEd.exe (found in the UT\System folder)
8. Click TEXTURES tab
9. Click FILE -> IMPORT then find your head.upt file (make sure GENERATE MIPMAPS is checked)
10. Click OK ALL
11. DO the same for the body.upt file
12. Now click on the pane with the head
13. Click FILE -> EXPORT then export in the format you want (.bmp, .tga, .pcx)
14. This file can now be edited in your favorite photo editor.
15. AS you edit you can save it once in awhile then go back to uPaint and import it to the appropriate pane to see how it's looking.
16. when your done then in uPaint Click FILE and export it out to UT.
