I would see if you could get in contact with another organization who has such an event. Someone there should point you in the right direction.

You could try talking to your local chamber of commerce to see about getting any type of sponsorships and advertising. I'm sure you'll also need to check with your city hall about any regulations to follow.

my wife just ran her first 5k this weekend. There was a company that specializes in organizing the run. The name of the company was run time racing services.

I think signmeup.com has an excellent setup and it makes it convenient to sign up online - that way you don't do any of the work (and it is best to get the majority of the people to pre-register)

thanks spike! i'll look into it. but i really want to be the one to really work it all out. i dont mind someone showing me how and me doing the grunt work. Its for a disease i have extremely bad and i want to put my everything into it. I dunno if that makes sense but i dont feel right just handing it off for someone else to arrange when they havent gone through an incurable disease. I think and i hope that more people will come if its done by someone suffering from it. does that make any sense or do you think people will care either way??

well, it would just help make it convenient for others to sign up and pre-register so no reason that couldn't be part of your event.
Also, go around the running/athletic shoe stores in your area and ask for sponsorships. You will need bibs (with the numbers and tear-off tags) and also get sponsors for shirts. The names of the sponsors (usually companies) will go on the back of the shirt and around the bib. The front of the shirt would have the name of the race.
Then get volunteers - you will need them for marking the course, registering people, guarding the course, handing out water, etc...

I agree with Echo. I would donate.
Pyro, you may want to check with the foundation for the disease (i think endofound.org??). They may have some type of local sponsorship connection and/or some type of material you could use for the run. They probably have a lot of experience with this sort of thing and can give you advice and support.
I think your passion for this makes all the sense in the world and there are probably people who care about it like you do, so it would make them happy if they could help.
More power to ya. You go girl!

I will def look into that! I finally found a (more like the only) Non-profit endometriosis group i could donate to! Im so glad i found one! But it makes me that there is really only one i have found that actually is established.
Yes, wombat is setting me up a website for pre-registration (as was suggested!) And for donations and volunteer sign ups! It wont be until the spring of next year so we are taking our time right now (we are all sick in this house and so im making sure he does no work!) but we will get it up asap and i will DEFINITELY put up the link as soon as its golden! Thank you all again for your support! Knowing you guys support me helps more than you know! I do love you guys!

Well i had a LOOONG talk with my doc this last week. we are trying to get me into an oncologist. he is extremely selective about who he takes (he has a chronic pain group im trying to get into) and so im REALLY hoping i get in. o that note tho....*sigh* Wombat got laid off on Monday. He got home from his grandfathers funeral and was laid off. we got 1 months severance package and insurance until the end of November. Im just hoping and praying that he gets a job soon and gets insurance that will allow me to get into this oncologist IF he even takes me. So ya...lots going on...really stressed out at the moment and my pooter is broke so i cant vent by playing! GRR!!! anyways thats the update on my end...
