Well, sigh, been unable to play lately as it seems like I manage to get a virus/worm/trojan horse on my pc. I found out about it when I went to do my usual pc maintenance and Adaware, Spybot, and Macafee all failed to initialize.
So I reloaded XP Wednesday nite only to find out that I didn't type the admin password correctly, thus another reload tonite.
I might make it back Saturday.

Man that sucks. On the bright side, a fresh install means a fast pc.

Yeah and fortunately, since all of my games are on another harddrive, I do not have to completely reload them.

If you dont already, invest in an external HD that will hold all your data and backup your system. Complete system image is best, of course. But you knew that already.
My CA security suite ran out the other week. But their system is to deactivate your software when your subscription ran out which is bogus. It should just stop updating. Anyway, I couldn't get the discounted update on their website as it wouldn't let me. So I went back to Symantec and gave Norton another try. I have SystemWorks 2004, but removed the AV as it was a resource hog and had the CA to do that job. I liked it. But their deactivation of their software did not set well with me. I bought an "upgrade" of Norton 360. It's a lot different than any other suite from them I have ever had. I thought it was just like system works but had other stuff. Was wrong. The backup feature in systemworks 2004 was Norton ghost. This one just backs up certain types of files. no complete system backup at all. I was mad and disappointed. But the rest of the suite seems pretty good. Got a few things things that CA didn't get and continuously scans your system in the background. Plus, a few years ago, they rebuilt the whole thing not to be resource hungry. So, I gave it a shot. But the backup on windows is better than what this package comes with. So I use that, for now. I may reinstall ghost 2004 back on for imaging purposes.

True, but I don't know when I got the bug.............so my back-ups may have had it as well, thus the complete reload.

Hmmmm. I guess that means a do-over. I had to do that twice with my wife's machine for one reason or another. Both systems were backed up again earlier this week. Was overdue as it hasn't been done sense Christmas last year.

Saving grace is my penchant for multiple harddrives, each containing a different purpose. My "C" drive has the OS and suites and other stuff that cannot be loaded elsewhere. My "D" drive has all the games, skins, etc. My "E" is for pictures, and my "F" is for music.
So, all I have to do is wipe "C" and reload along with the reload of the games to establish the links to "D".
My external hd is partitioned to mirror the 4 drives in the pc.

Nice. My D drive is just a dumping ground for old software, MP3s and pictures of all sorts. I used to have 2 drives partitioned out (had to in the old days) and everything was segregated to a certain partition. Now its just the 2 drives with 1 partition each. I really would like a larger HD as these are pushing 4-5 years old now. I dont know how much longer they will last. A few more years I hope till we get back on our feet.
