Somone want to code up a melee class?  XML

It's been a longtime thought of mine to create a new class that gets melee weapons, but no real ranged weapons.

If someone wants to try and brew this up, I'd be excited to try it out.

My thoughts revolve around two packages:
Chaos UT2 Melee weapons
or
Junk War

My thoughts are to give them a lot of vamp, health, and damage reduction with a little of the protection weapon ability and the reflection weapon ability thrown in.

Basic first spawn defense item could be a roll of duct tape to block a doorway or something.
Interesting idea....

My current skin After several other skins, I have reverted back to Bender.

oo oo yes please , chaosUT was lotsa fun

am willing to create models of swords, axes, Battle Hammer ,clubs , hockey sticks whatever needed/wanted if someone can code them
(have a LOTS available that I can Convert from Lineage II if that is acceptable as well)
hmm vorpal long sword +10 brings me back to me D&D days

Yeah, I would make sure to get permission if you are planning to use anything from another mod.

I don't think I really have ever played a FPS game that did melee combat convincingly though. Even something like Rune which had melee combat as its exclusive focus never sold me on it.

I would love to see models from Lineage 2 if only just for reference / learning purposes. How much trouble is it for you to bring them to 2k4?

have a coupla hundred available but getting them into unrealed shouldn't be too hard (2 or 3 to start of course )

Ok I've looked at some of the basic weapons and I think I can import and animate melee weapons

I'm going to download chaosUT again and look at how they did it there
as I'm assuming you are going for a from "scratch" idea and not using another mod, as far as the coding goes I'm clueless so no help there

my initial idea for animation is two separate attacks
primary : a downward slash and back
secondary : a stabbing motion

need to do some homework regarding this first and then I'm going to try and get the importing/animating going hopefully have some done by the weekend

I've got no concerns using another mod. You'll still have to download the original mod from the server and the appropriate team will still get the credit. People do this to Druids RPG all the time.

I wouldn't spend a lot of time trying to "make weapons". There's plenty of them in these two base sets.

The problem (at least with ChaosUT) is that they want different PlayerPawns, and the RPG effects cant be applied to their weapons.

This is where my experience in trying to code it up ends.

Is there a way to keep the melee class from picking up regular UT weapons?

after a quick look see the first issue comes down to that they have player animations which are not standard . I could give the weapons themselves an animations but it may look odd having a sword slash and the player model use a "firing gun" animation
creating new weapons might be easier than recoding existing one though (not positive on this though)

gonna download Junk War and take a peek at that

**Edit Junk War looks like a much better option just needs some more Swords/Axes kinda weapons IMHO ***
