I'm planning on getting a new harddrive, making my present "c" drive "d" drive and reinstalling a "fresh" windows on that new harddrive.
Instead of reinstalling all my all my games and other programs, I would like to know if there is a program that will search the old registry on the "d" drive (my old drive) and transfer those to the new registry? At this point I could just copy the programs to my "c" drive as needed.
I don't want to just transfer everything over as I don't want to keep some of the old programs and other clutter in my present registry.

Dunno buddy.
I'm planning to do a complete wipe and reload of my "C" drive over the 4th. I will have to reload my games but not any of the skins/maps since my games directory resides on "D" but will end up with no link to "C" until the game is reloaded.
I may try to reload Vista again to see if the latest patches will help.

There are a few migrating tools for vista, but I don't know if they work for XP (ie from XP to XP) but they might.
WET (Windows Easy Transfer). This copies user preferences and system settings and such, but that is in the Adv. section of the Vista install and may only work for that situation.
The User State Migration Tool is used to copy software over. I dont know if you can DL a version from the MS website, or if it's just on a Vista install disk. I know it requires XP SP2 from the source drive.
Hope this helps ya. Web addy below. Cut-n-paste, the auto link feature messed it up.

Hey, thank you for responding. Unfortunately the Windows Easy Transfer id just for settings and such and I was looking for a way to pull parts of the registry out so I can transfer program codes and settings into the new registry without having to re-install them. I have some programs I like that I got from the "Giveaway of the Day" website that can only be installed the day of download, so reinstalling them a month or even a day later is not an option.

I wonder.........
Is it possible to remove all of the unwanted programs from your current "c" drive (keeping just the desired ones), take the old hard drive out of your pc and replace it with your new one and reload windows on it. Then put your old hard drive back in and copy the desired programs to the new hard drive.................

Your on the right track. You can remove the wasted stuff, then do an image of the drive over. Unfortunately, it wont remove the crud that can build up that wont go away with uninstalls. But if you run a tight ship (PC) that would work.
I did a search for migration software. There are a few on Tucows. link below.
http://www.tucows.com/preview/329538#MoreInfo
There are also several related types of software listed below on that page.
I know there is an MS tool for just this, but I cant find it at the moment. I swear it was the USMT but I guess not. I will keep looking.
