Grizzled (where & what ive been)

Hello all,

Been a bit busy from Jan. Got a new computer but was not that active here at the time, so I did not bother to make DC my home page till I had time to game again.

I have been trying to get my photography to a level where I can sell a print or 2 occasionally but grinding with photographer is much harder than AM.

My wife went into the hospital for blood clots in her lungs, and I broke my wrist this spring, but everything is better now.

I have heard that there have been some economy driven troubles in the lower 48 that are a big deal but we have not even felt the housing thingy here in Alaska yet. I feel for you though.

That's it in a nutshell, you can find me on steam, or playing UT3 during my time off, until then, don't bake in that HEAT down there!

Hope the rest of the year goes better for you. Housing thing definitely bit me on the house the ex was supposed to have listed a year ago. Realtor says I would be lucky to get $30K for a house on which I owe about $63K. Just hope the bank will do a "deed in lieu of forcloseure" on it, which would get me out from under the excess.

BTW... You doing all digital, or film, or a mix. I did a large amount of work with film in HS and college, including using exotic films for astrophotography, and doing all the color prints for my senior HS yearbook. But of late, a older digital camera has been my friend... my fiancee has been shooting what would have been a medium sized fortune every week... I just uploaded about 1200 photos which she shot in May alone.

I have mostly been doing digital.

I have a Sony a100 I picked up re-furbished at the Sony style site for 300.00 with a 3 year accident protection warranty and I picked up some spare Minolta lenses for it as a pawn shop for a couple of hundred.

I live in a small part of Alaska with an annual tourist visitor total of about 500,000 people, local pop is only 28,000.

I live 2 miles from the worlds most accessible glacier and ice field, you can drive up to about a half mile from the face.

I am mostly playing with the camera and trying to get good for now.

i am SOOOOO jealous of the first pic!!!!! i want to see something like that in the open ocean SOOOOOO bad!

That pic was from the southeast Alaska marine highway. A ferry system that connects the towns and Burroughs of southeast AK. Its not super expensive to ride and a couple times a year I get on just to go take pictures. We almost always see humpbacks or orcas, we do always see eagles, porpoises, dolphins, otters and some of the least tamed wild areas in north America.

man if i were rich id SO be there asap! i want to learn Marine Mammal Science!! I love it all! but ive only seen Dolphins in the wild once! And from a far distance! I would totally freak to see my whales up close in the ocean!!!!! Its a dream of mine!

University of Alaska has one of the worlds best marine mammal research and degree programs, its all right out of southeast AK.

I have a few more pics, let me hunt them up and I will post the links for you.
