Study: Video game play may improve eyesight

Researchers studied two groups that played video games for 50 hours during a nine-week course. One group played action games such as "Call of Duty 2" and "Unreal Tournament 2004." ... People who played the action games showed improvements in contrast sensitivity ranging from 43 percent to 58 percent, compared with no measurable improvement to those who played the non-action game.

There was another study done (cannot remember what/where/when) that took the combat-type games into nursing and senior citizen homes and let the residents play.

The study indicated that playing the games helped the residents improve their brain functions, improved their eye to hand co-ordination, and improved their memory. It also indicated that those unfortunate individuals with brain damage, i.e. Alzheimer's, can be helped as well.
