Maybe someone here can help us... My friend and I (Merc_for_Hire, who also plays on DC) network UT2004RPG all the time, but during gameplay one of us will get kick because UT2004 could not validate our copy of UT2004. We both bought new copies through Steam, and are therefore valid. Any ideas? And also, the in-game voice chat doesn't work when LANing, but it works fine when I'm playing online with you folks on DC. Any and all help/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Now you know why I never buy games without CD/DVD!!!

Did each of you buy a separate copy or are you trying to use the same download? The key validation is may be the same for both programs and when 2 players try to play at the same time, the UT2004 server/server will look at the key and decide that 2 players are using the same key at the same time.

Voice chat/text to voice/etc are in the settings.

No, not the same copy. Bought completely separate... although both through Steam.

Don't know how to answer your steam question...have you contacted the steam people?

For you voice chat issue: In game voice chat will only be available if you are connected to a dedicated server. If you are hosting the game on the same computer you are playing on, voice chat will be disabled.

The VOIP for voice chat requires extra processing power. If your computer is fast enough you could setup a dedicated server on it and still play on it.
An even better approach would be to setup a dedicated server on a third computer. It doesn't have to be a fast machine...In fact I ran a server on a 800 mhz mini Itx for a while.
Also you don't need to buy another copy to setup a dedicated server. You can get a free server key.

You can even download the dedicated server install disk from the downloads section...Legally
