so, I was on the beta for little big planet. if any of you PlayStation owners like platformers or development of the same, this is definitely a game for you.

The game is fun, quirky and irreverent. the controls are easy to use to get some fairly complex game play out of. the graphics are sharp, but the style is something both very new and very old. It is very easy to get caught up trying to build a level and make it fun and interesting.

JEALOUS!

I've been eying this game for a week or so. Been waiting for a demo to show up in the PSN so that I can see how the controls are, and if I can get the GF into playing. If so, we'll be buying the game and getting a second controller. Otherwise, I might still get it, but I'll probably wait a while to get it.

The levels for multiplayer play are designed with "coopetition" in mind. You are competing with the other players, but there are points at which you can't go any farther without cooperation between each other.

Slashdot just had an article saying that the game was going to be delayed a week due to issues with the music. One of the tracks licensed for use contained phrases from the Koran; even though the artist is Muslim, it's still considered insulting to the religion. So the advance shipments are being recalled.

Hey - if any of you out there are PS3 owners, especially if you have LBP, I'm looking for an LBP buddy (and, well, PS3 buddies in general).

For me, just add a "2" to the end of my handle here

I'm not sure if I totally understand the premise of the game. I saw a commercial for it, but that didn't explain much. Just showed some characters jumping around like it was some Mario Bros. type game.

It is a platformer - you have that much correct.

I suggest seeing:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdU6IwCPlog and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imA-DDarwB0
These are detailed walkthrough from GDC; part one is interesting as it starts with level design as opposed to game play. Game play starts in part one, and then goes on through part 2.

They've done four "LBP" videos (actually available through PSN if you want to see them in HD):
Life in LBP 1
Life in LBP 2
Life in LBP 3
Life in LBP 4

Let's see if I can come up with a premise ...

You are an adventurous SackPerson, who goes through LBP collecting bubbles. Sometimes bubbles contain stuff that give you construction materials you can use to add on to LBP. In the "Story" section of the game, you will visit a number of lands (each of 3-4 main levels long) done by an LBP constructor. For each level, you can get rewards for reaching 100% (which will require on most levels at least one other person, if not 3!), going through without dying at all, and of course for making it to the end. I haven't gotten to the end of the Story section yet but the "money" in LBP isn't there, it's in ...

Your ability to play levels constructed by other players.

If your PS3 is connected to the Internet, you can play, create, and share levels. I haven't gone through the create phase yet (there's a lot of construction materials and capabilities you don't get until you've gone through all of the creation tutorials) but I've played a few player created levels - there are some really good ones out there.

As per the first link above, creating a level does not involve scripting beyond the popit - there's no texting needed (unless you want your level to include "talking"). You can shape stuff, connect stuff, and the physics built into the game will take care of a lot.

And as for "Life in LBP 4" above ... well, I had to.

This game made me want to snag a PS3 (well, that and the fact that it's still a reasonably priced Blu-ray/digital media player). Honestly, not very many game titles have excited me like this one has. I haven't played it yet, but it still looks amazing. Santa be good to me and bring me a PS3!

I watched the videos and I must say, that is an ingenious game they made. The physics and graphics are awesome! I may have to get this game. I like the idea behind it. You can spend a lot of time with this one. It would always be different.

I'm debating about buying this. The videos make it look awesome, but I'm worried that there aren't enough good levels online for a good replay value and to keep me interested.

Well, there's a couple of answers to this:

- I find myself playing the stock levels over and over; you get "extra" awards for finding 100% of the prize bubbles (not possible on some levels without 2 or even 4 players, but even in single player you might find something you missed - hint: search YouTube for "YYZFAQs"). You also get extra awards (costume parts - minor but it's something) for going through without dying.

- Build one yourself. I'm working on a design right now in my head, and I've gotten a few mechanical things I wanted to get straightened out figured out. The only issue at this point is that it can take a *long* time to put something decent together, even when you know full well what you're doing.

Did no one click on the link to LBP4 above? Jeeze ... I must suck at trolling.

I've been renting LBP for the past couple of days. I'm impressed. There's so much replayability in this game it's almost overwhelming. I'm probably going to buy it soon, but until then you may find me online occasionally under the username "Lovaux"
