Yep, on the calendar to watch tonite too.

I realize that most of you are too young to remember "The Dark Is Rising" book series by Susan Cooper (1960's-1970's), but they made a movie based on the second book called "The Seeker" in 2007. It wasn't bad at all.

I just watched the show. I'd give it a 6/10.

I have to agree with your rating Demon.... I was a bit disapointed that the changed some parts of the book in the show... while I understand they can't put every detail in, I just don't like when they change how it happened and a couple of the characters definately don't match the part or description in the books. But I still plan on watching the series to see how it all turns out.

Unfortunately, I've not seen or read the books as yet. Somehow, unfairly as it may be, I subconsiously compare these types of shows and movies to Peter Jackson's LOTR 1/2/3 movies and find the later fanatasy shows lacking.

Narnia 1/2 came out a little better at 8/10 for me, but LOTR was 10/10 for me.

IF they had a great director, cast and special effects... the Sword of Truth series books could be right up there with LOTR. If ya get a chance, read the series!

So now that its a ways in, has your rating changed? I have some friends wanting me to watch this and I'm curious if it is worth the investment...

cheers.

Even tho it's not the best acting, or special effects in the world, I am enjoying watching it. They are currently re-running the first like 6 or 7 episodes, the first episode came on this weekend, but im sure u could catch it online, if u wanted. The new episodes continuing the story start on Saturday Jan. 10.
I have also read thru the series again and am now on the last book, Confessor, which is fairly new so it wasn't out when I had read the series the first time. Loving it!
Anyway, I would suggest you watch a couple episodes or so and see if you think it's something you could get into, but as you know, with any series/movies, the books are always 10x better.

I'm so glad to hear you liked the book, I can't begin to explain how much better the books are compared to the series!!!! There's SO much missing and out of order, amoung other things you always miss when a book has been converted for TV/Movie.

I hope you enjoy the series! Let me know when you get done with the next one!
