I have been getting calls from friends and family because their computers are infected with something.
After doing some research: Legitimate sites are pointing users to a malicious site: http: xp-vista-update.net/?id=########### (digits covered for protection)
reasons for this is advertisements on major sites like msn and msnbc are exploiting a flash vunerability (most likely one in flash 8. update to flash 9 if you haven't already) The exploit takes over your clipboard and anytime you paste anything it pastes the link to the site. Users are inadvertently posting the url thinking they are posting a legitimate url because of the hack. Be very aware on sites like myspace and facebook. I even found a news article on fox news detroit: The link to get a particular news story redirects you to the url.
I am unsure what the site actually does to computers, but it has tricked some people I know into installing software on their computer.
You can do a google search for xp-vista-update.net and see what I mean...just don't go to that site if you are using windows (xp or vista)
Mac and linux users don't seem to have to worry about the site at the moment, but there are complaints from users of both OSes that their clipboards have been hacked.

Please don't post the link to the site that would be considered malicious. Thank you. It'll be the gift that keeps on giving.

I didn't post the malicious link...that link redirects you to google
but i will modify it further because I wasn't thinking the site would turn the url into a link
