merging weapon glitch  XML

There is a glitch where when the magic weapon maker is used, it will sometimes create a new weapon that "merges" with an existing weapon. This happens when you are holding more than one of the same type of weapon.

Can someone explain why this happens, and under what conditions?

As you can see here, the glitch was discussed and nobody had any idea why it happens.

Have you ever seen this glitch before?
What are you expecting "merge" to mean?
According to that site: the "merging" seems to refer to the magic weapon maker giving a bonus greater than or equal to a previous bonus of the same magic...This seems like a minor issue since AMs can max bonuses anyway, and the MWM is supposed to upgrade weapons, not downgrade.

There are some misconceptions here, and a few things I'd like cleared up before I provide more information:

First of all, the MWM does not "upgrade" weapons. It is perfectly possible to take a magic weapon, use the MWM on it, and get a "lower grade" (lower plus, or what you might perceive as "less powerful") magical weapon. Many an AM has accidentally MWM'd a vorp 10 shock. One can easily argue that you won't be happy with what you end up with.

Second, you say "this happens when you are holding more than one of the same type of weapon".

In more recent versions of DruidsRPG, we've tried big time to avoid situations where you can have more than one type of a weapon (say, two different flak cannons, where you can switch between them by simply using the flak key multiple times). The only time this should actually happen is if someone dies with the weapon in question and you pick it up, even though you already have one of that kind of weapon. If this is the case you speak of, then what you might be running into is when you have two different weapons, but the MWM makes the one your using it on the same thing as the weapon before. This isn't a merging perse - this is just random chance fooling you.

If you're using a mod that allows you to use two different weapons at the same time (dual wield), then there's not much support anyone here can offer you - DruidsRPG isn't actively tested under those circumstances, so your mileage may vary.

My Lw has denial lvl2 and I have had 2 of 1 type of weapon frequently and I have seen the "merge"
when you get another of the same type of magic you lose one of the two always seem to keep the one with the higher bonus

Hm. Thought I had fixed that not too long ago (the LW denial thing).

have had that going on (getting 2 of the same weapon after dying) for as long as I've had denial 2 must be related to loaded weapons skill

"Merging" in the context of the original post refers to when you have 2 of the same weapon (e.g. 2 Flak cannons, one from picking it up yourself and one from picking it up from someone who died).

This has become a pretty popular strategy on Monster Mash, because if you get a combination such as one Null and one Infinite weapon, or one Energy and one Infinite weapon, you can instantly recharge your ammunition by switching to the infinite, then return to firing the other weapon.

Personally, I don't consider it important enough to look into or prioritize at all -- If you've got two of the same weapon, it's a luxury. If you continue to roll the weapons, you risk them "merging."


Since it's relevant I suppose I'll bring it up - On Monster Mash we use a weapon replacement mutator for the Assault Rifle to replace it with an actual useful weapon (the MP5 - basically a modified Assault Rifle). When a player with Denial level 3 dies (or level 2 with it drawn), they will receive a new MP5 on their next spawn, and then be granted the MP5 from Denial. I'd actually like to resolve this issue, since it makes acquiring several flavors of MP5 quite easy, and is one reason why the issue has come up in the first place.*

*Small aside, this also happens with the Shield Gun.



Has anyone had any experience resolving this issue? The obvious thing to me is looking into changing Denial to destroy all the weapons you might currently have (at spawn), and then grant the weapons via Denial. But it's possible there may be a less drastic solution than having to extend the ability and replace it on all of our players, etc.

If I recall correctly, I corrected issues with denial and double weapons for the Shield Gun and AR only. Other classes and weapons - sorry.

If your server is using the release mod (200), then that might be the issue; I think I fixed it in a later version of DruidsRPG.

Yup, using Druids200. I'll check out the latest - Would you mind if I rolled your updated Denial into our server as a custom package?
