i have a couple more ideas for engineers:
1. im not sure if this ones been mentioned before but i have a drones mod which gives u a small ball thing that follows u and shots things. this would mean an engineer could wallk around about and fight instead of siting in a turret all game.
2. shield sentiel; this could shoot team mates and regenerate their shields. it would be usefull for their suppport role

Druid looked at it a while back, and thought about converting it - but hit problems. I considered implementing something similar, but then the general consenus was that Engineers were too powerful, so I stopped adding new things.

It is possible. An alternative would be a base doing the same thread as discussed in a separate thread. However, I have a feeling that engineers would tend to always go for the offensive sentinels instead, so I do not think it would get used much. Unless you made the return from the shield healing very high, which is not a good idea.

yeah i guess so. thats the problem with the shield sent i think, becuase allthough i keeps you all alive, the one enginer who summons it gets no xp while other put their offensive ones next to it and get loads of XP!

i still dont agree that engineers are overpowered though. i rarely see an engineer get over 1500 score, where as other classes are gettin way over 2000. i agree that they are an easy class to play; sit in a turret and shoot, but they are not overpowered. i think the drone should only be availible to higher lvl engineers and enable them to get out of their base and actually fight a bit

Alice: What a funny watch! It tells the day of the month, and it doesn't tell what o'clock it is!
The Hatter: Why should it? Does your watch tell you what year it is?
Alice: Of course not, but that's because it stays the same year for such a long time together.
The Hatter: …which is just the case with mine.

they are overpowered at high level but at lower they are next to useless. it takes till level 30 to make anything worth using. once they can get a lightning sent then they get pretty crazy because they can place it, then run around... essentially getting double the XP as long as they stay alive

yeah but thats the problem; you dont stand much of a chance running round on wave 10+. i just think that in comparason with other classes its not as good. a weapon master can just use vamp and self heal while running round killing in 1 hit with an avril and adren masters can just globe or constantly use lightning bolt. i just think that engineers sitting in a turret all game gets a bit boring.
and yeh ure probably right that no one would use shield sentinel

engineers have been balanced (thank you szlat)
they were very OVER powered for some time, the highest lvl engineers on the server are some of the original beta "testers"
you should read some of the older post regarding them , there was an all out hate for the class for a while
and I have scored around 1500 with a lvl 48 engineer with no more than 6 blocks and a lightning sentinel. which is a respectable score next to my other classes.
and each person has their own "style" as to how they like to make a base

If you were around back before balance youd be singing a different tune...there were level 30's and 20's scoring in the 1500 range and beating out WM like violator...(aah that was fun...)
Though I do miss those megawoot games with 4 tanks per side...aaah that was fun...
Reason why the engi class may seem 'under powered' is because the AM medic and engi are support class compared to the main class of WM.....
Each class has their peak points....engi peak early and climb steadily from there....AM's peak later..medics peak the latest ..and WM...I forget...
Er..Point being!...AM have their artifacts...Medics have their healing and pets and engis have their constructions...
Personally I have more fun on certain maps being and engi helping others get crazy good scores than myself getting a decent ne, but hey thats just me...

In fact, that's the reason I quit playing my engineer shortly after the class came out. I know it sounds silly, but I was outscoring much higher level players with a brand-new engineer and two lightning sentinels (I think I was able to spawn two - talk about racking up points). After a while I got bored - I only picked it back up recently and I must say that I enjoy the challenge now.
BTW - awesome job Szlat!

Yeah the engineers were overpowered i remember i was level 40 had a tank and 2 sentinels and would score over 3000 per map kinda fun seeing a low level outscoring high level players . But i have to say the changes were for the best and now we actually have to put effort if we want to get close to 2000.

I was thinking like those gun racks like u see in onslaught. a engingeer could make a rack of those. Even a single weapon pickup would be a nice idea.

i forgot what the ability is called, but it gives engineers the ability to gain exp for healing shield. If we could boost that exp by a little bit, im sure engineers would love to use these kinds of sents. They can gain exp whenever the sents heal someone that took dmg. Of course it would be dmg from monsters, self dmg would do nth when healed.

If you are talking about healing health: That would take away from medics.
If you are talking about healing shields: Since shield blast is only 25 adren and shield healing with a link is almost instant, I don't see this being a useful tool to waste sentinel points on.
