Explosions In The Sky concert

I've been eagerly anticipating April 4th because Explosions In The Sky was coming to Buffalo, NY and I'd heard they were amazing in concert. If you haven't heard of them here's their myspace http://www.myspace.com/explosionsinthesky ... they are a completely instrumental band based around guitar, bass, and drums.

The venue was at this downtown bar/restaurant so 8 of my friends and I got to sit at tables while listening to them. The opening act was a band called Lichens, who is just one guy playing a guitar and howling into a microphone. I wasn't really impressed by him, he played one song that was 32 minutes hehe. Explosions came out and said, "Hey, we're Explosions In The Sky" and they just went crazy. The band is known for mellow and intricate guitar, but when they're on stage they are extremely energetic. They played almost their whole new album and a bunch of older songs that I'd never heard, but were fantastic.

The highlights of the night where when the lead guitarist put down his guitar and picked up drum sticks. He and the drummer played a dueling solo at an insane speed which was amazing. Then to finish the night the two guitarist and bassist really got into a song and did a synchronized strumming of their guitars starting with their hands above their heads, repeating for about 3 minutes.

The concert was 2 hours in length, 1 1/2 of it was just nonstop Explosions. I highly recommend going to see this band in concert, it was the best concert I've ever seen and for only 12 dollars. If you're looking into purchasing an album I think they're all good, but their latest is my favorite "All Of a Sudden I Miss Everyone." Overall the concert lived up to the hype, 10/10!

Right on! Sounds like it was a fantastic show. Got me wicked jealous with the whole drum battle there...every concert I go to thats the one thing I really wanna see...either a battle or a solo. As yet I've been let down...
