see skill description near bottom of page and substitute monster for player

note monster damage reduction varies depending on average player level alive at any time.

Thanks so it applies to monsters too. Why and how exactly does the monster damage reduction vary with average player level?

Balancing reasons ....
Imagine if you will 10 level 20's on fighting a level 100 monster wave 16...impossible....or a level 100 vs a lvl 20 wave...everything falls too easily...
So the answer: balance and challange...

As for retaliation...first few levels are like a drop in the bucket..not to mention it depends on your DB as well

-Jason_X- : lvl 97 Medic
-Jas0n_X- : lvl 59 Engineer
-Jasôn_X- : lvl 47 Engineer
-Jas@n_X-: lvl 42 Adren. Master

You might find this page useful.

Retaliation is of little benefit in invasion imho. Even when maxed, you are only doing a max of half damage back. So to kill a skaarj health 150 you would have to take 300 damage (this is actual damage, not damage before your damage reduction, protection weapon or globe reduced it). So you would then probably be dead anyway.

As disastrous suggests on the page, if on average you take 2000 damage over the 16 waves, if maxed you would do 1000 damage back - which is about 6 flak shots. A lot of points spent for 6 flak shots. There must be a better way to spend the 325 points required to buy it - unless you have run out of other things to buy

The general opinion given was that you would get XP.

But if you are only doing 1000 damage with retaliation in a map, that will only give you around 17 xp per map. If each level costs 10000 xp, and each level gives you 7 points, and retaliation costs 325 points, then retaliation will pay you back in ((325/7)*10000)/17 = around 27000 maps.

If you play 20 maps a day (around 11 hours), you will finish paying off the retaliation in nearly 4 years.

Spend it on something else.
