First an intro I'm a new medic vary new to the game in general. Most of my past gameing exp has been in daoc and WoW. I have basic understandings of the seperate classes here but its still vary much a learning process. I have been vary impressed with the general maturity of the players, willingness to answer questions, and general help in game, I have seen thus far and for the most part you do well at thining out players that do not stick to the rules.

Currently im at lvl 35, grinding hard with a goal of 100 in the near future. Atm most of my points are tied up into weapon speed, damage increase and various healing abilities. Ive tried to spend points on things that have duel purposses like weapon speed increase helps killing and healing, as does the damage increase. Next ill likely start working on damage reduction for survivablity. I tend to favor the link gun as a healing weapon but find if there are no other medics im forced to use a splash damage weapon like flak or rocket launcher.

The idea for this post started in the warrior forums on Wow and I cannot tell you how much it has helped that classes community in general. Basicly any experianced or knowlegable people out there share the skills and tactics they have learned along the grind, with the community. I'm hopeing the same type of thread will be just as benifical here.

I'll get the ball rolling with key bindings weapons and abilities has made a huge differance in my play, along with the translocater trick of laying it in a safe spot poping out for a few kills/or healing than transing back. I know for most these are probaly ut2k4 101 stuff, but like I said its just to get the ball rolling Thx in advance for the time and the tips, looking forward to responses

above link is a great help
I highly suggest adren drip the quicker maxed the better heal blasts and berserk combo are a staple of my medic , damage red , and adv dam red are also a major benefit as they go along wonderfully with berserking into the middle of a horde of monsters
and later it helps with summoning monsters

here is my contribution to the world of medics (a good read and a laugh too)

I'm considering a more serious guide as the "so you wanna be..." link is a little old and not a thorough as the other classes
if anyone is interested let me know and I'll give it a shot

The link is an effective healing weapon for stationary players but rather ineffective for a zig-zagging player on the move. I really prefer the rocket launcher to heal other players when fighting due to, as you said, the effects of the splash.

It is always better to make a healing weapon that does splash damage. That way, you can heal yourself as well as other players.

actuality, with drip you can use direct fire weapons and use healing blast on your self. Mini gun works very well and I find that most waves you pick up more kills and more healing exp as it is very easy to top players off continually.

If I fail to find a link that works too...
Damage reduction always helps as well...

Yea as of lvl 41 im finding I just dont live as long without useing a splash damage weapon, loss of ghost was huge. Ive been tossing around several skills and just not sure which to do next.

Major problems atm is just liveing though the matches, so im toying with damage reduction. If I go this route ill prob do advanced damage reduction for now since the return is better on points and it will be awhile before i can purchace sheilds up.

The adrenal drip is sounding good, the idea of constant healing blast or a heal blast+healing sphere combo for large grps of player healing during thick swarms is tempting. Also the ability to use things like triple damage consistantly is worth mentioning as of now lvl grinding is a bit slow squeaking out 1k exp a game during prime time and more during the off hours.

Someone also mentioned perhaps starting in on monsters. The added damage might help with lvling and the idea of useing them as meat sheilds at choke points in combo with lob weapons like bio rifle or flak is a fun idea in theory. I really dont know much about how effective monsters are atm and i see vary few players that actually use them consistanly<cribbage is only one that comes to mind>.

I honestly wouldn't get into summoning monsters till you get into the 90's in lvl , they are expensive and have little return till you get to brutes then their all money
2 or 3 brutes in a small area with your healing can be devastating

at lower to mid range levels stick with the flak and RL till you get your other stats maxed it'll make survival easier

get adren drip 3 (a ready supply of heal blasts promote long life, not to mention the xp you get from berserking), dam red (maxed) , and adv dam red (maxed) I didn't get ghost till later when I realized wave 12 is murder
but nothing a good ultima won't solve BOOM

the old adage of watch learn and listen is great. I watched other medics quite a bit when my LW was out and learned some different strategies from them
that being said these are abilities I found most helpful with my style of medic play : straight ahead into the throng of monsters blasting them while healing myself and when my health gets too low a well time heal blast brings it back up

I agree with Roadkill, adren drip is essential and the monsters are not worth the return until you get to Brutes. The reason I use them extensively is because I noticed early on that I got way more double kills, multi kills, etc when I had pets out.

The damage reduction attributes are very useful for staying alive - after all, you have to be alive to score xp. (Also, ghost is good to get that second chance, and make you braver against the titans.)

But the one I would concentrate on early is experienced healing. I get 2-3 times more points healing teammates than killing monsters. Sure, you may not be high up on the score list, but you will see your xp bar rack up the points when you are splash healing 4 or 5 teammates while they blast away at monsters. Max this out along with the damage bonus so that healing up a teammate from redline to full up will net you 25 or more points. Multiply that by 4 or 5 teammates a couple times a round (during the later rounds) you will score 3k xp per map.

Another observation on the pets. Unless their intelligence is set pretty high, they will tend to get in the way and follow you instead of killing monsters for you.

Listen to road, on his post above, I have played a medic for over a year (and other characters) and he passed me in just a couple of months.

On tight closed in maps the best monster exp is what I tend to call "medic mele'" essentially get as close to the monsters as you can and use splash damage weapons that will kill them and heal you at he same time.

I will switch what weapon I am using for healing depending on the map, the wave and how many other players need healing. An awesome way to get exp early on is to find one of the eng characters that use a defense sent on titan waves and link up with them. The highest exp I have gotten killing monsters myself is occluded a large amount by what I made linking a higher level player. In one case linking a lower level player
look at your own play style and see waht works for you and then build your character around that.

good to see you here finally Cribbage

didn't realize you could get that much xp from healing . Once I got mine xpd healing to 4 or 5 I just left it there (went after ghost3/ultima) but that is a large amount of xp...

and with all the engineers on now all u have to do is camp around with them and lotsa free xp just sitting there waiting for you

I have to second Cribbage's comments about maxing xp healing first. I am always surprised at how quickly I can level compared to my other 2 chars.

If things line up just right, as they have done a few times, with a crowded map and people grouping together in a defensive spot during the higher levels, I have easily exceeded 4k xp. On average though, 2k to 3k xp is about my norm with at least a half a dozen non-medics playing.

Obviously, the more medics there are on a map, the less xp there is to get.
