I need help. Here is what I have done so far. I have 2 desktop computers and a Linksys WRT54GL router. The desktops are connected to the router (wired), and a printer is conected via USB to one of the desktops. The desktops share all files, internet connection and a printer and both run Windows XP. It all works so far.

Now I have this notebook, which I can connect to internet wirelesly and it works (manually inserted the settings and security stuff I made on the Linksys). What I can't do is get it to use the printer. The notebook runs Vista Business.
1. Does the notebook need to be a part of the network in order to share a printer?
2. How do I add the notebook to the existing 2 desktop+printer network?
3. Is there a problem because the desktops use XP and the notebook uses Vista?

Many thanks!

Have you set the laptop to the same workgroup?

Also unlike xp, vista sees sharded printers as network printers, not as shared local.

Agreed, but you also are trying to make a wired network go wireless (unless you are using a laptop docking station).

They do have to be on the same workgroup (as Ratar stated) using the same protocal (TCP/IP by default) XP will automatically recognize another XP machine. I'm guessing Vista will do the same. If router it recognizes all the machines, my guess is that it just needs the workgroup name set and it should work fine. once you are on line, look in My Network Places (XP) to see everything attached to the network. Supposedly, the vista machine whould appear in the list. Good luck!
