Well, I'll put it as plainly as I can.

Right at the moment there's two things that are really holding us back.

First, the server is prone to hang, but there's no way short of signing into the game to determine it's hung.

Second, the server is virtually un-adminable. The server lists are rife with people reporting cheaters, foul mouthed jerks, and other things; and the beauty of it all is that if you know a couple of *tricks* (that I wont mention here), it's impossible to tell either who is performing the activities, or it's impossible to actually ban the person in question.

I'm carefully watching the epic games server lists, and as these problems change, hopefully we'll get the tools we need to have our usual fun community, safe on this server.

The fundamental problem is this: The first word we learn as children is NO. From that point forward society teaches women that saying no isn't polite, and society teaches men to respect those who wont take no for an answer.

Any thoughts on an external webmin type of application? Obviously stuff like bans etc... probably might not be possible but things like a server monitor or config editor should be feasible.

I've been on the server on and off quite a bit the last week, and so far I have not happened across any issues with hanging up or lag. If I do I'll note the time and drop you a line Dru. I have noticed in other UT3 servers some VERY questionable play and scores and have seen players exploit some bugs. Hopefully Epic will start rolling out some patches.

Pretty much the same as CPLMAC, I've been on several times in the past 2 weeks and have experienced no funny stuff, either by the server or by players. In fact, most of the time I'm on, it's nothing but bots.

Epic is working on the admin interface. Believe you me, when it's out, this will be a much better story.

That's so bizarre. I would've thought server management would be high on the priority list. Did they forget about it while developing the game?!

Hrmmm...I posted that I will be back, but after looking at the forums I am a little disappointed and a little confused.
My goal was to get UT3, but now see there is no invasion, there are cheaters, and overall Epic did not put much thought into the online side of the game apparently.
Did they want people to have a hard time dropping 2k4 for ut3? That what it seems they have created.
Did they think their very poorly reviewed attempt at a storyline in ut3 would keep people interested for long. All I ever remember doing with this game was checking out single player for a hot minute, then getting right into the online play.
Obviously, I will just reload my ut2k4 and get back in on that today.

So...I guess what I really would like feedback on is....do I even bother buying ut3 right now, or just wait until there is actually a reason to even be on the ut3 servers to buy the game? I have no interest in the poorly realized single player storyline I read about for that kind of dough.

I actually like the game it does need another patch though. I doubt that its ever going to have the amount of content UT2004 did though, its just a lot harder to make game assets now and a lot of stuff for UT2004 came from or was made for UT2003 official or community.

The single player has never been a reason to play UT. The user created content is what makes the game fun. I play UT3 infrequently, but I do play. It just takes time for the content to be developed. There are actually a good number of user created maps, game mods, and a working (and fun) invasion/rpg mod out already. Check out the forums on Epicgames.com, not the UT3 website forums. All of the downloadable content is on the Epicgames forum. Just keep checking for patches (1.2 is out now), updates and new content. The game is fun and worth buying.

Build it, and they will come.
