For all, a good, tummy-filling, football-watching Thanksgiving Day.

I agreed (unwillingly) with my wife to set the good china and silver for company today, but have to admit it's pretty.

Here's to gravy shots and the stuff in turkey that makes you sleep that i can't spell, and cold sandwiches at midnight by the light of the full fridge! Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

Happy Thanksgiving!

(except that there isn't enough Tryptophan in a normal Thanksgiving dinner to actually make you sleepy - what does it is the sheer volume of food consumed)

Oh, and nice table Demon!

To all of those who mentioned the table setting, thank you. It was the first time we had used the china and silver since we bought them.

It was a great effort on my wife's part for the delightful dinner cooked and served today and I will suffer greatly over the next few hours from over-eating.

Happy "GOBBLE GOBBLE GOBBLE" lots of food day.
We went to mom-in-law as we always (dont want to) do...

Watched the big game and proceeded to enjoy. Got home and passed out in a food coma after I call my parents to talk to them for a bit. Hope everyone had a wonderful time.

Why is it that when a woman gets married she wants the nicest dinnerware possable (this i understand) but then when you suggest to actually use it they freak out (this I dont understand).

(I know i'm going to get flak for this from all our strong and powerfully smart women on this server)

My wife, sister and mother all own beautful dinnerware that have very been used.

Well, actually we bought the china as an investment............pre-WWII Japanese Meito bone china 12 place setting plus the extras (serving platters/gravy bowls/etc.)-extremely rare, thus the grudging usage since we cannot replace any piece that gets broken. My wife has wanted to use the set for some time and she just let me know that it was gonna get used this year and if I didn't like it, tough. So I just simply said "yes, ma'am."

Now, investment i get.

But then as an investment it should either be put away in a safe place ( bank vault or such) or displayed as art.

I guess it's like a comic book thing. I dont see the need in collecting unless your going to read them. But as soon as you open them they are worth less.

All i'm saying is if you drop 10 grand on fine china and never use it, why not buy something thats takes up less space.

Am I alone here?

I dont get this either...
In my house my mom has this china which Ive grown up seeing and shes had it longer than me...but yet...Ive never once seen it used..it just sits in the cupboard.......sitting.......and waiting.....
For someone to trip and crash then goo..."uuuh..oops?"...

BUT its beyond me why get something you cant use...Or rather...could use but wont use.....

Getting statues or vases that have aesthetic and antique(read $$$) value I can understand...cus you can display them and what not...and the same with guns..swords..or other things which are not your everyday thing
But as you get to china....silverware...and even possible comics..which wont be used but could be used....

ah well..
maybe it'll just remain on lifes great mysteries...like the vanishing socks in the wash......we'll never know .....
