I hope I am not flooding the forums, but lately I play a lot as engineer and I am full of ideas/suggestions. If I have gone over the top, inform me and I will hold back a little.
I think shield is engineer's health. Medics by themselves can get their health to max by two means:
- healing blast
- shoot feet
As of now, engineers can get their shields maxed only with shield blast (by themselves). The problem is, if you buy all the 15 lvls of shield regen, you get healed to 150. But when you invest in "shields up" ability, you are making your shield regen relatively less effective. You can have shields max 250, but it still heals you only to 150, which is 60% of your max. So I propose that you take into account one's "shields up" ability too.
The upper limit to where your shields get healed would be than calculated as (and rounded to the nearest whole number, floor or ceiling):
["shield regen level"] * [30 + 5 * "shields up level"] / 3.
For example, I have:
shield regen 5
shields up 1
my max shield is 175, I get healed to 50 now. With the proposed fomula, I'd be healed to 58.
If I got:
shields regen 10
shields up 4
my max shield would be 250 and I'd be healed to 167 instead to 100 as of now.
Anyone who would have shield regen maxed (15) would get healed to their max shield independently on the shields up level.
In short, every shield regeneration level would heal you to another 1/15th of your max shield (which depends on your shields up ability).
I do not think this would be too much, as we are getting shield regen only when we are not being attacked (unlike health regen...). It would also force engineers to balance shield regen and shields up abilities.

If anything I say just add more lvls to shield healing....cus going up in funny decimals is weird.....like shield regen 25 would heal you to 250.. ....
ALSO If u think about ti ..medic only regen till 300 then no more..they have a 150 max that can be put on by healing weps.../blasts....same with engineer ..cept smaller....150 is base line max......250 is the added max....
So relatively its not ineffective..its around the same..just alot less 'health' but our CONSTRUCTIONS can be regened and vamped (turrets..vehicles..) ie the means by which the engineer class is designed around
So thus its balanced in my opinion now (for low lvls at least)
THEN AGAIN its all we've got for our footsoilders..but then again AMs have 0 regen of any kind...
Ive got no prob with this idea..but Ive also got no prob with the current scenario.....so eh...thats my spin on it...

I am not convinced about having the amount being healed adjusted according to the shieldsup level - fractional increases do not always go well.
How about Shield Regen 1-14 behaving exactly as now. Shield Regen 15 changed so it still heals at 15/sec, but goes all the way up to ShieldMax rather than stopping at 150?
The extra bonus for maxing the skill.

I saw thats an excelent comprimise ! ..yeah instead of cost 5..make cost..um...*counts* 20 /25.. ...its alot cus its alot more jump than the past 14 lvls...(actually 25 woudl essentiall convert to what ud have to pay if you went up in 5s till 25 ...but yeah) so prolly 20 then....more than 5 im guessing... ..maybe even just 15...

Thread had gone quite, so this change now in cvs awaiting build.
(Except on my first post I said it heals at 15/sec - level 15 actually heals at 7.5/sec not 15/sec)
