I hatched an idea for a new sentinel yesterday.
What if we had a sentinel that simply spun in a circle and fired bio-rifle goop, like a way-cooler and much deadlier version of a sprinkler? The fire rate and damage in my version would be the same as the bio-rifle (0.3 seconds to fire and 35 damage apiece), and the radius of the circle would be about 5ft. Of course, numbers should be modified to balance it if neccessary.
It is sufficiently different from existing sentinels to justify its existence. Plus it (probably) would be comparatively simple to code.
Any thoughts? Is it worth the effort?

Welll...hmm....would it damage the owners?...would it be enclosed like the normal sent?..will it be constant or only shoot when in range of baddies?...
I like the idea if it could coordinatly fire..but then again..it is a just a sprinkler.. ..toxic one..but one none the less. ...
Its interesting food for thought....place is a cooridor and goopify the entrance way.. ..

For some reason, I cannot get this idea out of my head.
Where it came from, I do not know (I think it came from the spheres that Szlat was playing with but not sure), but picture a player with 3 small defensive orbs circling the player's head/body that targets incoming rockets (i.e. brute or warlord) and either kills the rocket or weakens it with a lightening beam/particle projector/etc, based on a percentage of incoming shots.
The player has to maintain his orbs by healing them with the link gun or lose them.
The player has to buy each orb, adren cost unknown, to a max of 3 and the orbs will stay with the player until the player dies, orb loses health, or end of game, whichever is sooner.

Why would you build a sentinel if it could hurt you? (So no, it doesn't hurt the owner)
It would fire constantly, creating a sort of minefield-like effect.
And since it would fire constantly, it wouldn't need a shell that retracts; a shell is only used while a sentinel is not firing. But the shell could be kept as the petal-like structure of the unfolded shell, just not as the silo-like retracted version. (I hope that made sense)
On a different note, IF it is decided that the devs do not want to spend time with this, could I get a copy of the DC sentinel code to mess with? Maybe by some miracle I might even be successful in doing something.

I am still trying to get the sentinel weapon to rotate when it is targetting, but haven't yet managed it. And if it is spreading goop, you would probably want the weapon to rotate as it throws it.
