Players randomly lose health

I know Greedo mentioned this problem the other night, but today it happened with -|WOLF_gang|- . The player will loose health without being poisoned or damaged, 5 HP at a time (a bit like Regeneration 5, but in reverse). Wolf's guess was the red flies considering the problem started up right after they attacked. In one case he reconnected after the problem occurred, got back in only to have the problem restart after being attacked again. SackO'Burlap noted that they did not get experience for healing the damage done by the mystery illness.

yeah thats a lil weird.....o.0...sorta like how instant ghost means youll carry poisoning and null queen wraps with you meaning well...your dead..XP....its one of those times when no matter wa you do you just...die..

I noticed TON80DB was losing health at 5/sec when he handed me both the lightening bolt and triple damage before leaving and I immediatly started losing health at 5/sec. Unfortunately I died before I had a chance to toss either to see if that would change anything. Don't recall having any issues with flys.

Only joking. So, it was either the artifacts you got that started knocking down the health, or something else that had been attacking TON that then started attacking you.

I am presuming this was on invasion, and not team deathmatch.

We have been having problems with Lightning Sentinels not summoning correctly. There is a vague possibility that one of those could end up with the wrong team, but that would do slightly more damage and would attack more than one player at once.

It could be that a poison didn't stop properly at the end of its time. Or perhaps something going wrong with the low-level regen? What levels were you? I couldn't find user TON80DB, but if you were playing as HighwratH that puts you at lvl 40 - just under where the low level regen disappears, so not likely to be that. I don't see why any of those should suddenly start when TON80 left.

It is unlikely to be damage done by a monster, since healing it didn't give Sack'o'Burlap xp.

I think we all just need to keep our eyes open and see if we can get a better idea of what is happening. It may be worth letting it kill you to see what death message you get?

I think the name in question is TON80_MD. He's a high level medic.

With everyone starting off new characters, I didn't want to assume it was his _MD character

This may be water crossed with broken ghost.

We'll have to see if it goes away after ghost is fixed.

yeah happened on my engineer Character...i was in water with lava skarj then i ghosted....and i was losing 5 hp at a time..(:...faster than i can regen...so i lasted till the nx wave..only to have me ghost form this health loss...then get killed..:S so yeah...and i dummped all my artifacts that i culd..

Ok this has now happened to me.
Started losing health after ghosting and could hear the sound of drowning everytime I lost health, so I jumped in the water and health loss stopped, then all was OK.

I think the game is confusing water and air supply time.

Has this happened to anyone where there was no water on the map?

Did you instaghost or was it normal?

when it happened to me it was instant ghost...cus i rmembr trying to trans out fo the water ..and then appearing one place ..then reappear back at my trans...slowly but surly dying..

This should be fixed in 209. It shouldn't be happening too much in 208, but is a symptom of teleporting without reporting the physics change. So, the only times it will happen now is:

1. InstaGhosting (grrrr!) out of water.
2. Possibly if you were Ghosting "through" water and timed out and were teleported to your destination.

I know what to add to CVS and will fix it when I get home today. We'll also set the ghost timeout to where if you do timeout instead of make it to your destination, you stay there as a ghost for a couple of seconds (Dru suggested 5 but I think 2 will do - that's me, the rebel, disagreeing with Dru) before popping out (this may take another day or so to make it into CVS - it sounds easy but does add some more complexity to an otherwise already tricky if statement).

in the mean time if yer start losing health ...jump in the water quick!...

Yes, I was playing my medic on invasion. This has happened to me 2 or 3 times now. Didn't realize it was contagious.
