Windows XP vs Windows Vista (THG Review & Benchmarks)

Ahh my machines fall over all the time. I'm a lowly work-from-home pc tech, so im always messing with mine, makes it very unstable. Lots of small annoyances build up, i do a reinstall, OK for a bit till it falls appart, etc etc.
Thats why i figured do the Vista as an upgrade, nothing to lose. Strangely, it feels like a fresh instal, but with everything already in its place.

The rating doesn't mean much, myGF has a laptop that scores 2.1, yet runs aero with no problems. Slightly sluggish, but only as sluggish as you'd expect a cheap laptop to run. (think it.s a 1.6 Processor)

The biggest thing that i found was updating the motherbard BIOS. I spent a weekend two weeks ago, 14 failed install attempts. Seemed to install, but then was amazingly sluggish, or just stopped. Update BIOS, wham, straight in, no fuss.

As for the $250? well, , , <COUGH>torrent</COUGH>

I bought the Vista Ultimate full retail version with both the 32 and 64 bit editions/2 DVDs. At the local Best Buy, they have just the 32 bit edition "on sale" for $399.00.
