Can't wait until 2025? The next eclipse is right around the corner: Saturday, March 3, 2007. Stuck on Earth, we can't see the ring of fire, but we can see the red glow it produces on the moon. The phenomenon will be visible from parts of all seven continents including the eastern half of North America.
In the USA, the eclipse will already be underway when the moon rises on Saturday evening. Observing tip: Find a place with a clear view of the eastern horizon and station yourself there at sunset. As the sun goes down behind you, a red moon will rise before your eyes.
Rising moons are often reddened by clouds or pollution, but this moon will be the deep, extraordinary red only seen during a lunar eclipse. As you watch it ascend into the night, imagine what it would be like to stand by Shackleton Crater watching from the opposite direction.

Thx Moof!
If anyone is able to get any good pics of this tonight, I'd love to see them.

Oh, also, this site will tell you exactly when. Which is about 30 minutes for the east coast, so I hope you're checking this forum for info on the eclipse!

I would have had the cameras and 10" scope out tonight, but for one thing... typical Ohio Valley weather means that it is cloudy. And the only thing which would have made it more fun would be to have Spammy there, along with our two sets of kids and a bunch of friends, all watching with us.
BTW... in case you do not know, I was doing actual astronomical research as a teen, and working towards a PhD in Astrophysics when I was at Ohio State. Unfortunately, I fell afoul of a physics department which is so demanding that a BS from the department is the equivilent of a PhD from almost any other institution. So I came away with a minor in it instead, and ended up in computer engineering, which has lots more jobs available at higher salaries. Someday, I might go back and go for that PhD, but I have other hurdles to clear first. Oh well. As for the times... I have the programs to do it for me, just as are used at the USNO and elsewhere.... the same ones we use at the OSU Radio Observatory.
If you can see it, snap a pic for me.
Oh, and favorite objecs... deep sky and comets.

I couldn't see it either. Cloudy.
There are clear pics posted in a thread on another website, but I can't link to that site here. It's SFW, but not by DC standards

I missed it!!! How come, you ask? (well, no you didn't but I'll pretend) Because I was watching movies with my wife - worth a thousand eclipses.
Spacey: if I had to do it all over again, I would go for astrophysics! Of course, I'm still considering med school but it is a little late in the game for me at 43.
