Class Skins/Models

I thought it would be a good idea if someone made a skin/model so that it is related to what class they are in. For example, if you are a medic, you could be a big "+"(plus) sign, just like my avatar to the left, except with arms and legs so that people will know in an instant that you are a medic, or if you are an adrenaline master, you could be the big adrenaline pill with arms and legs. Any ideas? I'm not sure how this would help... but it could.

Most people accomplish this using their character's name. Many medics add "MD". Example: mine is ECHO.MD
Adrenaline masters sometimes end in "junkie" or something like that.

Plus, quite a few people here (including myself) use custom skins, most of which can be found in Fro's skin pack, so requiring a server "uniform" isn't exactly desirable.

This idea has been discussed in other areas of the forums and the general consensus has been no. As Echo stated, you can tell the various players and the class they are playing by the way their names are set up.

Requiring conformity in the player skins and names may lead to less inovation and suggestions on the server. My suggestion is to get used to the various names/skins to where you know not only the player but the class they are playing in the game.

I would rather state that "It just wouldn't be fun."

I might drop Farnsworth for a while and start using Homer.

Rereading Miles' original message, it sounds like you want people to further customize their skins.

Skin use is optional. Many players don't bother to download the custom skins people use because, admittedly, they can take up a lot of space (I think my skins directory is like a gig or so). If people further customized skins, others would have to download additional "non-standard" skins and I really don't see the point in requiring to use and download certain skins to play a server. Seems a bit stuck up on the server owner's part, and I don't think Dru and Shan are like that.

Going one step further, I don't do skins, so I'm not going to customize Farnsworth (or Homer) any more than he already is. Either I'm going to use my skins, or I'm going to find some place where I can use my skins.

I didn't mean to sound like I wanted more customization of skins, but merely that players should feel free to play in what they want to. You're absolutely correct about the amount of space taken up as I looked over what I've downloaded of the skins and I'm up to a gig or so. This is not bad when you have the space, but those with smaller hard drives should opt to not have the skin downloads. However, I don't know how much the skin files affect the DC server.
