Presumably, a good number of DC board members live in this marvelous theocracy of ours. Any of you play Ultimate Frisbee? If so, where at? If not, interested in an all-skill-levels-welcome game on Saturday w/ a predominately aged 20-30 crowd?

..uh..which? There're dozens.
For those interested, I moderate a googlegroups Ultimate-related mailing list for Salt Lake, UT: slc_ultimate )at( googlegroups dot com. Additionally, there's an online forum at ultimateslc.org
As for the game itself, the Tenth Edition rules can be found here (HTML) and here (PDF).
Basic summary: Ultimate is a no-contact sport played w/ a Frisbee in a style that blends elements from both soccer and football. The field is set up similar to a football field, w/ endzones and boundaries, and the "flow" of the disc progresses like soccer, wherein teammates pass to each other.
Once you catch the disc, you need to stop moving ASAP -- there is no "three-step" rule. Once stopped, you establish a pivot foot which cannot be lifted/moved until after you release the disc. Your objective is to throw the disc to another teammate, who then stops, establishes a pivot, and throws to another teammate, ad nasueam.
If the throw is intercepted, dropped, touches the ground, lands or touches anything out-of-bounds, it changes possession to the other team. Unlike soccer, it's not who touched it last, but which team had possession last.
Play continues w/o break -- football is a slooooooow sport in comparison -- until either team scores by catching the disc in the opposing endzone. Teams switch sides, a la football, and then start another point.
All in all, Ultimate is my favourite sport. It'd be great to see some DC'ers on the field double-jumping or initiating a Speed Combo. Berserk and Invisible are outlawed.

Sweeeet!
Sure I'm in. I'm terrible but its a blast! In highschool, I was an electronics geek and we played it at night. Made wristbands with LEDs (red or blue for teams) and then we mounted a ring of them on the frisbee with a little timer chip so they'd flash in sequence. Great fun, but it kinda became a contact sport in the dark... Anyway yeah, name a time and place an lets do it!

For Utahns interested and local, there're two main games that happen on Saturdays:
Game 1 is at Murray Park on the soccer fields near pavillion #4 (~5000 S, ~300 E; far east portion of the park, just north of the super-mega-hill and west of Parkside Elementary). I normally attend this game 'cause it's an enjoyable pick-up atmosphere and everyone plays, no subs. (We do break into four teams on two fields when enough players show) Game starts around 9:30AM.
Game 2 is at Sugarhouse Park on the soccer field in the "bowl"/center of the park. Main entrance is at 2100 S 1500 E and the soccer field is east-northeast of the pond. This is a more advanced crew and novices are both welcome and bound to learn a lot, but at the expense of being humbled 'cause these players are (mostly) Wicked Sick. Game starts around 11:00AM.

Also, since pronunciation of 'reyalsnogard' proves tricky for some, and because most Frisbee-goers know not the association between said alias and myself, if you do show and are interested in singling me out, ask for either "Frisbee Dave" or the man-in-black.
I look forward to potentially meeting some of you tomorrow (or on future Saturdays)!
While I cannot vouch for the validity of these entries, non-Utahns may find potential pick-up games via the UPA Pickup list. (Even for Arizona!)

I loved playing it at Ohio State in the early 80's, but we had some interesting twists.
1) We played fairly decent contact... but the next one will tell you why we thought nothing of this.
2) We would often get the football players involved in our games. Imagine the guys who are used to putting on the pads and helmets to go up against opponents playing in the Rose Bowl there on the field with you. Those who were not on the football team were folks who did various martial arts, and were used to getting hit in our own ways.
3) On occasion, we got to play on the same field some of you may have seen last weekend as OSU played against Michigan.
Needless to say, we had some great games.

The day Ultimate becomes a pseudo-contact sport -- hopefully never -- is the day I bow out. I like gender-friendly sports 'cause working up a sweat w/ a strictly-male crowd who's liable to jump on me quicker'n a rat on a cheeto isn't exactly enticing.
Still, glad to learn of additional players out there! Perhaps someone more familiar w/ UT2k4 could code up a Tron disc mod and we could pass it around in-game.
