It's never been clear to me exactly how weapon handouts work. I know that you cannot handout a weapon with a * in its name, but let's say that I spawn with an energy +1 flak. If I hand that to an LA player and they give me back an energy +3 flak, that allows me to go and hand out that weapon myself, right? But if I use a MWM and end up getting an energy +3 flak, then I cannot hand it out?

You're right on the asterisk weapons, but if a LA maxes a weapon for you, then tosses it back to you here's what will happen.... you will have the option of choosing two flacks, either your old energy flack 1, or the new energy flack 3. So if you toss the energy flack 3 to someone you'll pick up your old flack, but once you toss that you can pick the 3 back up. so it'll look like this 1 -> 3 ->1 -> 3 and so on, this makes it somewhat difficult to hand out since you're alternating flacks so much. The easiest way to do this is to just keep tossing the flack 3 to yourself for a bit, that way it'd look more like this 1->3->3->3....->1 you'll have more flack 3's to hand out. Hopefully that's easy to understand, I'm sure someone else could explain it easier.

Now on the MWM.... the mwm will replace your weapon giving you no alternating choice so if use it and get a sturdy flack 3, you will no longer be able to toss that and pick up your energy 1 again. If it's a cloneable weapon though, you can still pass it out... like your energy 1 to energy 3 scenario. Hope that helps

Is that after you throw your own flak before accepting the new one?
I tried a MWM yesterday and tried to clone the weapon, but it turned into a regular weapon (ie. no magic). I had a negative weapon, changed it to a +2, but the weapons following that were all non-magical...
Hmmm, I'll have to experiment.

A queue of your non-star weapons are kept.

If you:

Throw a regular Flak.

Pick up (from someone else throwing it) a special flak, say E3.

Throw you E3 flak and run over a Flak spawn point, you will get a regular Flak.

But, if you throw that reg. Flak, and run over the spawn point again, you'll get an E3.

This expands - you can have a queue of E3 E3 Reg, so that every third flak you pick up *from a spawn point* will be a regular flak.

NOTE: THIS IS WHY PEOPLE COMPLAIN WHEN YOU THROW YOUR LESS DESIRABLE WEAPON AT THEM AND THEY'RE TRYING TO HAND OUT MORE DESIRABLE WEAPONS.

Your less desirable weapon gets stuck in their queue.

This queuing system:

Is why you might see me tossing and picking up the weapon I just tossed a couple of times, to make it easier for me to hand them out ...

And also stops you from just tossing a non-* weapon and attempting to get a * weapon by running over the spawn point.

To get into the fine details, weapons are added to the queue when you throw them, and taken out of the queue (and given to you) when you run over the weapon spawn point. If you run over a thrown weapon, your queue remains unchanged, unless you throw it (assuming non-*), and then *that* type weapon is added to your queue as well. Technically, and MWM can change/remove a weapon from a queue (depending on the * vs no-* result of the MWM) as, technically, the weapon you are holding isn't "in" the queue.

I just wish there were some way to clear the stupid queue... Too many times I have had cycles of 3, 4 or more different weapons in the queue, thanks to those folks tossing their weapon and me getting it when I am doing handouts. Grrrr.

Technically the only way of doing that is to get an MWM, pick up a (non-star) weapon from the spawn point. Magic it until it becomes a * weapon. Toss it.

Pick up the next (non-*) weapon from the locker and repeat.

Note that any other method for clearing the queue would probably be an abusable vulnerability.
