I can't believe it is just me (or I can't believe it's butter), but do you have certain maps that you always do bad on?

When I say bad, it does not mean exactly that you die all the time, it can mean a low score. For some reason Killbilly barn (or whatever that is called) and Colawars, I just flat out stink on. I tried different ways to score and I jmust have so much trouble on these maps. My average score on a map lets say is 800 and on these maps it is 250-300. It is not that I give up and just not try, but my frustration gets to me when I look at the score on the 9th round and I am at 150.

So I guess other people have there own problem child maps right?

Ok, let me get off my soapbox and stop complaining.

Score-wise, you're definitely not hallucinating.

But look at the maps.

Some maps lend themselves, depending on the number of people on, for a player to get some "private time" with a monster or group of monsters. So if you're able to find a spot with a few monsters but not so many players, you're good to go. You'll also notice on these maps that the scores tend to be more polarized ... the high guys will be higher, the low guys will be lower, and there will be a significant drop in the score between, say, third or fourth place and the rest.

Open maps or maps with a single large room and maybe two smaller rooms, will have a more even score. Yes, the same guys will still be in the lead, but there won't be such a large gulf between the high guys and the low guys. There's more scrapping for points.

Then you've got the tight maps where it's harder to get away from a group of rabid monsters, and it's easy to get surrounded and pounded.

Maps with lots of crates or other types of static meshes. They look nice a lot of times but with the movement system they are a deathtrap. Also when playing as LA DM-AChina is one of my least favorites. It looks awesome but there are very few pickups (health, armor, ammo, guns ect) and if you go inside the walls you always get caught on something...

Also I can never seem to download the correct version of Goatswood (think there are 3 or 4 versions of it) so everytime I connect I have to d/l it (15 - 20 min wait depending on how many other people didnt have it).

As far as KillBilly Barn and Cola Wars go I think the lower levels actually are eating up a bit of your score, those 2 have always been higher scoring maps for me.

Of course. Certain maps fit your style of play better than others. As such, you are much more comfortable and relaxed while playing. For example, I absolutely hate maps that you can fall off (SpaceNoxx is one) so my scores will be terrible since I'm always trying to play and at the same time, be sure that I'm not close to an edge.

Then you got maps like smelter(my favorite) where it's literally raining monsters.

I seem to do worse on maps that are multi-tier/leveled/layered (whatever you want to call'em) where i's like on big room but they put a bunch floors in. I like to run through a level, and having a map like that makes it hard to do. Tydal(I think that's the name) is probably the best example of that.

The word you're looking for is "linear."

I originally thought it was the type of map, but for me it is just these 2 maps (cola, killbillybarn). What is odd, there are different style maps.

I too have found that certain maps that I just do bad at. I cant think of any by name at this point, but I know I have a few. Oh ya, here is one I always hate: BREAKFAST! Playbility, for me, is terrible. And as for a poor invastion map, Sulfur is also bad. A narrow multi level catwak fall map. It's maps like these that made me purchace Countershove and hope I spawn with a Sturdy Flak +Lots >

I don't know if I do "bad" on them (well, in one case I know I do), but I hate maps with multiple floors and it's hard to get between floors quickly. If I can trans up or even just shoot up to the next floor, no problem. But if I have to run around half of the map to get to a monster I saw on radar but was a floor away, that ticks me off.

Also, Breakfast. Too much stuff that's "in the way." Almost like it's "deceptively flat"; it shouldn't be hard to hit something on the other side of a "low looking" barrier, but it is. I hate this map. Not because of the drop off - but because of that "monster on radar, practically next to me, and I might even be able to see part of him but I can't quite get my shots on him" thing.

Pretty much. It looks kinda pleasing, but way too much clutter to manuver around. And when you do have a good vantage point, well, YOUR OUT OF BOUNDS!

One multi level map that does not bug me is I_FULL_TOWER. Only because there is an outside to have fun in. I'm rarely in the building except to get one last baddy either on a floor, or in the pool at the bottom. I usually do real well on that map.

I can't think of any Don't get me wrong, once I figure out a map layout my score levels out (play it five or six times)

You mean I really am important? How I feel when I'm drunk is correct?

I do best on more enclosed maps with more bends, corners and tight areas.

Yeah I am not alone. I have played this map at least 12-15 times and my average score is 300 which is bad. I don't understand because it is a open map. It is not like that it is complex or very tight map. I always run one way and the monsters are gone and I find were I was standing the monsters are all there. Yes I have tried playing just a certain area, but no luck.

I am happy to see, I am not the only one for different maps. It is one thing to die a lot on the maps and I can accept that, but to be able to not find monsters to kill is frustrating.

I wonder how many people don't know that if you click on "Played", you can sort the map list by the number of plays.
