Ok I have my dunce hat on today (well most of the days). Can someone explain what is the difference between these 2? To me they read that they almost the same skill?

They are similar - both abilities "reflect" stuff back at the person attacking you. The difference is that Countershove is about momentum (how much you are pushed), whereas retaliation is about damage.
