Okay, I've been playing a medic as a secondary character for a bit now. As it stands, the medics are another class that kills things that can also heal.
Earning XP from healing is beyond restricted. It's been nerfed into oblivion. Don't get me wrong; I still heal other players. In fact, that's pretty much all I do. That's why I'm a-postin'.
I'd like to see it become a healer class. I'd be willing to sacrifice ALL offensive capabilities to be able to earn ALL my XP from healing. Rage weapons, the first 150 healing after spawn, self damage, pets, everything.
I recognize that this is abusable. ...But shouldn't intentionally earning XP from self damage or intentional pet damage be something that's bannable as opposed to something that's just ruined for everyone?
Edit: Let me clarify. If I'm healing, and -only- healing (in that my final score after wave 16 is near zero, if not negative), I might only earn 100 XP for an entire 16 wave game.

One question: What's your experienced healing?

5. But that's another question: why should I have to pay out 153 points - 22 levels worth - to get EH 9 and a legitimate XP gain from a class's primary skill?

All classes have to spend points to maximise the benefits of their class. Remember, WMs can't even buy LW3 until level 55.
If a WM did 900 damage and killed a titan, he would get 16 xp.
With EH level 9, a medic will get 10% healing back as xp. healing is 30% damage done. So, if you did 900 damage, it would heal for 30% of 900 = 270. So you would get 27 xp.
So, I reckon the 27 xp you get is not that unfair compared to the LWs 16 xp?
As for having no offensive capability, I am not convinced. What if you were the last player alive on a wave? Perhaps no xp from killing monsters would be a better option than no offensive capability.
But it seems reasonably balanced to me.

Compare the amount of time it takes to heal 900hp of damage though. Most players don't have maxed out health, so on average I usally only get around 200hp of healing in per person. Then beyond that, that 200hp is very rarely entirely damage from monsters, so a conservative estimate would be that I'd only get around 150hp of healing per person. So at 150hp of healing, I'd have to find and real 4 people as opposed to a LW player killing a titan in a few seconds.

I agree with Szlat that it seems reasonably balanced right now.

This would be extremely difficult to police, if not completely impossible. It would require admins following around every medic around, and even then, you would have to watch them the whole game to know whether they're just trying to do their job, or if they are intentionally trying to exploit something.

The LW players than can kill a titan "in a few seconds" would have to be very high level, and have other bonuses going for them. My medic is about level 55, and I can heal someone at 50 health back up to 450 quite rapidly.

I'd also like to mention that the medic can gain xp between waves, so while everyone is searching for that one bug the medic is still receiving xp for healing while others are not.

True, but that's why you have the ability to kill the monster and heal the person.
Why not kill the monster, get exp, then heal the people around, and get more exp? Seems like a good deal for the medic to me

That was my point, though. If I concentrate solely on healing, because I'm...you know...a healer...it's worth next to no XP overall.

lots of times there are several people around a monster so if you shoot at it youll get xp for damage and for healing either from mini/link spray or rl/flack splash damage.

This is not accurate if you max out your Experienced Healing. A similar comparison would be that LW characters with LW 1 will not score nearly as high as those with LW 5, and AM with no Denial will not score nearly as high as those with Denial 3.

Okay. I'm outvoted, especially since Shan counts for about 32589673459 votes.
I concede the argument!

In a test bred out of personal boredom, I am going to reset my charactor Dr_SuperToast, and focus solely on healing upgrades till I get bored with that.
I agree that the medic as it currently is, is balanced, but I guess what I would prefer is a strictly healing version. That starts to border on the concepts put forth in other places though of further sub-classes, so I don't see any more need to discuss that concept beyond that here.

Back when the medic was first introduced, we could get at max exp. healing, 50% of the health as XP. The stat point cost of exp. healing was also much cheaper, and could be easily maxed by the 20s/30s in level, with some points to spare.
Then, of course, everyone reported huge XP earnings - when I was the only medic in one game, I was able to get 6,000 XP, and that was without really bothering to kill any monsters.
As it stands now, I don't play my medic much AND he doesn't have max exp. healing (only 3), so I should probably stay out of the discussion.
