In the UK the price is 97 pence per litre. Converted to dollars it works out exactly $1.69017.
1 US gallon = 3.7854118 litres
That means if you were paying UK prices over there it would be ....
$6.40 a gallon!!
While I'm ranting about prices...
A packet of ciggs here is just under $10 for 20!
A service on my car costs £420 ($730.00) here, but 40k's across the English channel a French Audi garage would charge only £120 ($210.00).
We call it rip off Britain. It's gotta be one of the most expensive places in the world to live
Don't you guys have really high tax rates, too? I know Germany does along with Sweden. You guys do have high gas prices, but you guys also don't have to drive as far anywhere like we do and you also have a much better public transportation system which is what we need here. I would love to have a great PTS around here. In that sense, I would like gas prices to keep climbing because that would make people want to have a better PTS, but it would take forever to impliment and people are in love with their cars here....especially SUV's.

I suppose it may seem like our country is pretty small to you guys and although our public transport system may have it's faults it's possiblty alot better connected than yours.
Our government has tried, and is currently still trying to tax us out of our cars but the British people have a love affair with them so their policy is not proving successful.
The problem is we are not seeing any significant improvements to our public transport system in line with the massive tax rises. Currently per gallon, 75% of the cost is tax.

Of course, they did outlaw booze for a while. That didn't go over well, did it?! What they want to do here is tax us for how many miles we drive. The logic is that those that drive the most are putting the most wear and tear on the public roads, so they should be floating more of the bill for highway upkeep. Of course, that is where a lot of the taxes from our gas is 'supposed' to go to, but who knows where it goes
The bridges are starting to get expensive to go across here and they want to up the toll on those even more now. You already have to basically be a millionare to own a home here.

Illinois increased its toll prices by 100% thats (right double) last year for all motorists who did not have an I-Pass, basically a little radio transmitter that automatically debits an account in your name when you drive through a toll plaza. The premise they told everybody was that they wanted to ease traffic congestion by essentially coercing motorists into buying the I-Pass. So lots of sheeple went and got I-Passes, now at the end of this year tolls will double for those with I-Passes as well. Guess the real reasoning for doubling the tolls is known, more money. Illinois is loaded with toll roads, especially around Chicago. When they were originally built in the 50's and 60's they said they were only going to be toll roads until the expense of building the roads was paid off. Of course they have been paid off many times over now, and climbing.

The fundamental problem is this: The first word we learn as children is NO. From that point forward society teaches women that saying no isn't polite, and society teaches men to respect those who wont take no for an answer.

Yah, they have that here, too. It is called FastTrak. It works the same way with a little transmitter. They are making more lanes devoted to it so to interest people in getting it. They want to add a feature to it so that they can mark the time it takes you to get across the bridges. This will enable them to know if you are speeding or not. I feel as if I need to constantly look over my shoulder.

They are already issueing tickets here to motorists who travel from I-Pass transponder to I-Pass transponder to quickly. They know if it takes ten minutes to drive that distance at the speed limit if you do it in nine you are speeding. Dru if you can import my job to Utah I'm there.

Or to Montana where there isn't any tax....and they have casinos everywhere.
I think I saw a casino in a Payless Shoe Source and the laundromat.
