The Tanooki Suit is a rare item found in Super Mario Bros. 3
It Transoforms Mario into Tanooki Mario with the ability of turning into a statue. Also, if Mario runs fast enough to fill the Speed Gauge and jump, he can temporarily fly.

Tanooki suits are named after tanukis, Japanese creatures who, according to mythology, can use leaves to shape-shift and cause chaos.

It's Mario, you're favorite plumber! He dons the Tanooki Suit: a rare, magical item found in Super Mario Bros. 3 that grants the wearer the ability to transform into a statue and fly (but not simultaneously, of course). The suit was probably inspired by the lore surrounding the Japanese "Tanooki."
