Job search update

ok update
stopped at a yard sale in front of the dance studio down the street Saturday to look at a lawn mower they had out there 9 need one since the other one died... and the guy told us he owned the biz and that he sold the hobby shop in back about 2 months ago because of his meat biz he has also that he's expanding so asked if he was hiring and talked to him about my qualifications, he told me to come back at 9 30 Tuesday, i did a interview and got called this morn ... got the job but there's a catch i have to wait until he buys another truck next week to start working. the job is selling meat packs door to door and get paid by commission so it can be some really great money or not so good depends on how well i can sell

Glad to hear things are looking up. I don't know how it is in NorCal, but at least here in Phoenix the temperatures are finally starting to drop (it might even get as low as 100°F by Saturday!), so good timing for a door-to-door gig.

wife thinks its a scam

and doesn't want me to do it. and i fragged the shift key on the kb by spilling my water glass the other night

I don't think its a scam, but it will be hard to make profit, jobs like those make it difficult for the employee to earn revenue especially since the customers are so picky.

Yeah, especially for someone like me, having eaten the trail dust for many years when I was younger. I've been known to go to the friendly rancher to the north of us, pick out a heifer, give detailed instructions on how to feed it for the next 30 days, and then butcher it my way.

Selling meat door to door is not a scam and can be a money maker, but you gotta have lots of charm, know the meats like a butcher, and be able to package the cuts as per the customer request.

Selling door to door would probably be difficult , but if you decide to go that way get some good shoes for those old knees of your my friend

Good luck, Dom. From the milk man of old, to the modern day Mean man...the tradition continues. Schwans has been doing it for years...and it started out with just ice cream stuff, now you can get meats, pizza and just about any other frozen food...so it has to work. Saves them a trip to the store and gas aint cheap either.

Did the door to door sales thing, though not meat, it can be lucrative if you have A. the right personality and B. thick skin. You will be turned down way more times than you make a sale. The hardest part is maintaining a good attitude, I found that if you feed off the rejections it can really keep you motivated and upbeat. Just remember: each rejection brings you one door closer to a sale.
Oh and what Road said; good shoes are a must, and stay hydrated! It's amazing how proper or improper hydration effects your disposition.

Locrian: didn't know you are in here in the desert. I'm in E. Mesa near Las Sendas. Got to love when falls starts and temps drop.

well heck its been in the 100's plus for the last 2 weeks here and gonna be pushing 100 this week. now i got called on a laborer position and showed up on job site had a brief group meet with the sup and was handed a app pakg got it filled out and have to be there at 7;30 am to see if i get hired for a month long job at 12 bucks an hr may luck out and get more work who knows/

ps knocked glass over on desk the other nite puting glasses down... the shift and cap lock don't worky no more

ok started the laborer job today and it was a bit humid so i sweated alot but its not hard work as yet

then this morning i hear a beep from my phone...voice mail from a crop dryer plant i put in for as a forklift operator, would be nice to get my cert on a fork lift again makes more job open up, but can't jump from job to job

Coincidentally, last night several keys on my laptop spontaneously stopped working (Esc, W, 2 `, possibly others), so I have a cheapo external keyboard laying on top of it right now as I type.

update....i get to go back to work in the morning
