Good movies?

ECHO — GMT

Seen any good movies lately? Just yesterday I saw the Prestige. I was a little hesitant at first because it was only several months ago that I saw the illusionist. On the surface they seem to be similar story lines, but besides themes of love and magic, they don't share much else. This movie was good, but it wasn't as suspenseful as the Illusionist. Hugh Jackman's performance was great and there was even one of those "ohhh yeah..." moments when everything comes together. Other movies on my to-do list: Running with Scissors, Marie Antoinette, Borat, Déjà Vu, Casino Royale, and Fast Food Nation.

I would DEFINITELY recommend The Guardian. I don't even know where to start...but I'm sure you all have seen previews....

Over the Hedge V for Vendetta Slither Superman -kinda sucked but cmon its superman! Cars nacho libre! Elvis vs The Mummy -tooo funny. :-@

I liked The Departed. Reminded me of Boondock Saints. Rather long but worth it. Plenty of action, suspense, and twists.

I watched Scary Movie 4 on PPV...I was disapointed. Thought it would be better. It had it's moments, but too few to make it worth the time. The first one was better. Cant say anything about 2 and 3 as I did not see them.

You enjoyed it, so who cares? I love watching kid shows and cartoons. :D I've been watching Over the Hedge for a week straight. Cars is awesome. Cham got a huge kick out of the little Carrera. I just watched Redeye a couple nights ago. (I know its been out for a year) Seemed kinda short, but the girl kicked butt. It made me rethink my Cillian Murphy crush. Man, he was creepy especially after she got him with the pen. Ew. Has anyone checked out that new Christmas movie with Danny Devito and Matthew Broderick? Or what about the Santa Clause 3? B_B

im def. ganna have to see the departed now that i heard it compared to The Boondock Saints easily one of the BEST shows ever made! But if its not as good i know who im ganna be comin after.. :-w as for other shows i have seen lately... Ove the Hedge I re-watched pirates 2 and got even a bigger kick out of it the 2nd time! I looked for alot of things too and discovered alot as well! if you wanna know what to really look for pm me so i dont give it away to those of you who are slow enough not to have watched it yet [-( lucky number S7ven was one Aeon Flux grr i cant think tonite but those are some of my favs from this year! not to mention one i saw on masterpeice theatre on i think it was pbs, it was Casanova. NOT the one with heath ledger nor one you can find anywhere but there...trust me i have looked! but it was AMAZING!!! im ordering it over the web site but if your daring i say buy it! you will NOT be dissapointed! its SO funny!

I used to be an avid movie goer in my younger days...ok, untill I got hooked up with my soon to be wife. She would rather rent and watch at home so she doesnt have to deal with the crouds, no pawsing the movie and all that. So, I miss out on a lot of good things in the theater. So I have to wait till it's released in the rental market to see anything anymore :( But Pirates of the Carrabean released in december so we will pick that up. So, I guess I get to be a year behind everyone these days. Sux too, cuz I love movies.

How does it cross the line? Its more of a family movie than a kids movie. I enjoyed the first one, the second one was 'eh'...I was just wondering if anyone had seen the 3rd. Just curious because Martin Short is in it. B_B

It crosses the line for me :) I liked the first one, couldn't watch the entire second movie, and if the movies continue on this trend, chances are I won't like the third either. It'll entertain kids regardless, but that's just me.

We saw one on Sunday, Flushed Away... if you love Wallace and Gromitt, you will really love this one, it is done by the same guy. And it is not just a flick for the kids. I laughed so hard at points I got a headache, it was so funny!!!

I agree. Seems like sequels get worse as the movies go on. Are there any movies out there where the sequels are just as good as the first one? Hmm, come to think of it, I enjoyed Toy Story 2. Ugh, I swear, I don't watch kid movies ALL the time. I watched Braveheart last night. B_B

I swear to you, the first thing that popped into my head after I read that sentence was toy story 2! :)) and it's the only movie that I can think of where the sequel was better than the first.

Sequels? Hmmm... Lord of the Rings kept getting better and better. Star Wars ep 5 & 6 continued to improve the series the first time they came out, though the improved versions here of recent years did improve the earlier ones as well. Wrath of Khan was better than ST:TMP, and Search for Spock improved it a bit more, though after that, things got to be somewhat hit and miss (this is in part the ST movie odd/even rule). The Matrix trilogy, Underworld and Evolution are also continued improvements. And there have been a number of others as well which have improved sequel after sequel. A certain number have been mixed, just like ST, and others have been worse than disappointing. As for Rocky, the Friday the 13th/freddy movies, Jaws, and such... Forgedaboutdem! Of course, this is all IMO.

A few sequels that come to mind, and some are "prequels". The Indiana Jones trillogy, Terminator 2 was good as 1, but I havnt seen 3. Short Circuit 1 and 2 were both good, if ya liked them to begin with. I can safely say that just about NONE of any of the sequils made from Disney are any good. Most of them are Right To Video because of it. Alladin was hit and miss with thoes 3. Lion King 1 1/2 was cute, the Timone and Pumba story. Was Pirates of the Carrobean 2 any good? It looked so, but I havnt talked to anyone who has seen it. If it's good, I will get it when it comes out next month. Then it would be a first for Disney to make a sequel that was any good to begin with.

Yes and no. It had a lot more fictional characters like all the slimy green men which kinda cheapened the storyline. It was good, but in my opinion, not as classy as the first.

Hired and watched POTC: Dead Man's Chest last night. Thought it was pretty good, but not as good as the original. Was not all too pleased with the open-ended ending, but atleast i know there is a sequel coming (At World's End) to tie things up.

POTC:dead mans chest was awesome!! i loved! I didnt think the crew of Davy jones lessend it at all! I really enjoyed it! As for Saw 3...i dont think i will ever watch that show again...was way too twisted and i didnt like how they were involving children into it.

I recently saw V for Vendetta on November 5th( it's an important date in the movie) and it was amazing. It's a great story and lots of action, I highly recommend it if you haven't seen it.

I went and saw Santa Clause 3 last night..it was ok. It had it's funny parts but it wasn't as good as the first one. Red Eye is a great show, as well as Flightplan. And as soon as the theaters empty a tiny bit I'll be going to see Casino Royale :D

The Pixar movies are good. I think they have very good writers. I haven't seen 'Accepted' yet, but I want to. The previews make me think of 'Old School'. I liked the first POTC better then the second one. They are too different from one another, in my opinion. The first one was a little more down to Earth while the second one was far more of a fantasy. It kinda reminded me of the 'Matrix' movies. The first one was good and then they just took off with it, but they never landed. They just went a little too far. (ie. not a big fan of the Matrix movies)

i also saw V for Vendetta on the 5th! not for the first time tho1 just thought it needed to be watched on that day! and cham!! thats just not right! Saw the latest Bond movie yesterday. Good flick, 9/10 (that is saying volumes), so must get it for the DVD collection. And while some may complain for the lack of girls in the opening credits, it was a very good one, with lots of thoughts on how to work in the casino theme.

Wait wait wait, pyro and boingo are twins? Anyway, i wanna see Casino Royale (new Bond film). Just about everybody is saying its among there with the very best of Bond flicks (Goldfinger, Dr. No, etc.) and as a bit of a Bond fan myself, this makes me excited especially since every Bond film since Goldeneye has just about sucked.

Sorry Pyro, I just wasn't the biggest fan of the Matrix movies. I think it may have to do with Reeves being the main actor. How should I put this gently....he isn't the greatest actor. I can't take him seriously. I'll give the movies this, however, they have good special effects. I would like to see that new Bond movie. I do like the 007 movies. I didn't think Connery was all that great, but I'll still watch them. I guess I just have strange taste Pyro, after all, I'm marrying your twin :D Oh boy am I going to get it now!!

I know what you mean. Seeing him in any type of romantic film is like watching a dog pour itself a cup of coffee while standing on its hind legs.

The matrix moves are awesome, espicially the first, and the mech's in the 3rd, although Trinity's actor could have been more attractive... as for 007, there is no one in existance I'd rather be than JB. I haven't seen the new one yet, but I will a.s.a.p. he just doesn't look like the usual sly, coy, bond. But any bond movie is a good bond movie.... thus far. And they had better not screw them up!

As most of you know, the current Bond film is where it all begins, a Prequel. But long time Bond fans know this is a remake. Dr. No has taken most of the attention as being the first Bond film, but it wasnt. I dont know who was in the original Casino Royal, but I do know Woodie Allen made a parody of the movie by the same name, I believe. Of course it sucked. And for thoes die hard Bond fans, you need to watch Spymaker. It's the story behind the man who was Ian Flemming. His life growing up in college and how he develped the Bond charactor from his own life.

the only one I didn't really like was George Laznby (or however you spell it) He only made one movie..On her Majesty's Secret Service. Timothy Dalton was ok but not the best...the rest are really good :D

True. The first bond films were back in the '60s. I think the director/writers decided to go modern with this to appeal to current audiances. (I'm just going off what you said, I still havent seen it) unlike that Sky Captian movie where it was filmed, designed and acted as if it was done in the 50's. They did a good job in that end of it, if nothing else. It was mildly entertaining. We have gotten so used to the FX of modern movies that anything less than that is old hat.

We went to see 'Flushed Away' last night, and it was the funniest movie I've seen in a while - you have to like British humour, but if you do, it's great! Haven't laughed so hard for ages!

Went and saw 'night at the museum' with a friend today. It was actually funnier than I expected, but not laugh-'til-tears-stream funny. Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson were ok, Robin Williams was superb as always. If you're willing to ignore the huge holes in the story and end the movie without satisfying closure, then go see it.

I just saw The illusionist!! GREAT movie!!! i definitaly reccomend that one! OH! and also the lastest of the King Arthur movies with Clive Owen!! Ladies..let me just say that its worth seeing! for guys and girls :-D

I dont ever get to see new movies anymore. So I have to wait till it's on video or PPV. The latest movie I saw recently was the all contriversial, Brokeback Mtn. I didnt want to see it, but she did....it was alright.

I don't know, most of the audience there was my age---50+ or older. There were some children but not as many as you would think. Let me put it this way. My wife and I have decided that the movie WILL go into our video DVD collection when it comes out on DVD.
