A Game of Thrones

I just read a Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin and I'd have to say that was the best book I've ever read. I'm now starting A Clash of Kings. The series is a fantasy science fiction. It has very little magic so it's not like a Forgotten Realms book. More like a Lord of the Rings with even less magic. Some say that Martin has ruined fantasy (but in a good way) because he did so well in this series. I know I won't read another Forgotten Realms book for a long while. But I have to ask if anyone has ever played the Game of Thrones card game or the board game? I would like any opinions on that. Or even any opinions on the book/series. I would strongly recommend reading this. But be prepared, each book is about 800+ pages long. No spoilers please if you want to talk about the series.

A good author that i enjoy reading and currently are reading is James Patterson Hes written many books and a lot which are great. Ive read Maximum ride/ Schools out (teen) When the wind blows/the lake house The beach house Im reading Jack an Jill now which is a murder thriller and it awesome. And that is also part of a series which i believe is 12 books

James Patterson? Icky. That guy manufactures books, he doesn't even write them. He averages around 9 a month I think it was. Douglas Adams ftw in my opinion (assuming though that you've allready at least read the first hitchiker book dip...) Go read all five hitchhiker books then go read the Dirk Gently books.

Nada.... haven't read it. James Patterson isn't a bad writter though i liked all that ive read from him

Even if I told the ride you are about to take with the next 3 books you would not believe it. I too am interested in learning how good the card game is. If you like good writers, I kind of like Tad Williams, Paticularly the sea of shining light.

I get that a lot. I was amazed by the first book. I went ahead and ordered a couple Valyrian starter decks. I was told that the game is pretty good. Then again, I'd like it just for the artwork since I like most of the characters in the book.

I'm eagerly awaiting the next book of the series as well. I read the first one because a friend recommended it and liked alll the others. Another series that is pretty good (though not as "epic") is The Sword of Truth by Terry Goodkind.

A good old skool fantasy series is the Riftwar Saga, by Raymond E. Feist. It uses many devices from Lord of the Rings and fans of one will probably like the other, however, Lord of the Rings was often tedious in my opinion while Riftwar is an effortless read that's hard to put down. You can find this series in any library. Also, Anne McCaffrey's Dragonrider books are very solid. These are basically sci-fi. All but one or two are top notch. Also available in any library. I think the best one to start with is Dragonsinger, which is a fast read and will tell you if you should bother with the rest.

I like Feist, but honstly I think his second series is every bit as good as the first, and the third is even better. I also find that L.E. Modesette (hope I spelled it right) writes from a unique perspective. in the ten books of his that I have read, I have not seen 2 ideas directly "borrowed" from another author.

Another good one is the Elric Saga by Michael Moorcock - http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/m/michael-moorcock/ I'm not sure how easy they are to find nowadays but certainly worth the effort.

Yeah, seriously. If you can handle every character you begin to love DYING withing moments of your realizing that love, yeah Martin is awesome lol. Whoops, hope I didn't give too much away... ;] This series made me swear to myself I'll never start another one that is unfinished lol. I'm going insane waiting for the next one. The way this guy creates character is unique in our generation of fantasy writers, and his style itself is near poetry. If anyone grew up with Brooks or Eddings or the ADD books and all that in hand as a kid, A Song of Ice and Fire is the natural progression. For a little lighter sci-fi read, the Ender Series by Card is fun and quick...
