Exactly....!

I get tired of hearing people want to change the map because they cant sit in one spot and rack up as many points as they could on a 1v1 map. If the map gets voted on just play it :)

If the map has any major problems go ahead and vote to change it but just being an ONS map shouldnt really automatically mean its a bad map. (although it is true the fps can drop on a good part of them no argument there)

Also if the map is so bad that it can't be played post something in the forums about it so it can be removed and then you don't have to worry about that one anymore.

Re:remove the huge ONS maps

Although I know it's democratic, I also know democracys can still make mistakes.

I hate the vast majority of ONS maps. Primevial is decent. Dria is simply horrendous. Even a map like Torlan is torture for me personally, and I drop off and come back later. But at least with Torlan, there was a time when I was around level 40 and I enjoyed it (I was able to get more exp at that level playing ONS than playing DM because I could stay in a raptor the whole time and not die.)

I suggested Pacman as a compromise and so far the response has been very good. People of all stripes seem to enjoy that map, even though the first five waves are kind of slow still. I think ONS can be fun with a map like that and even maps 2 - 3 times that size. Beyond that... dunno.

Maybe I'll try to find a few more like that so everyone can live in peace...

Same here, ONS maps rarely get voted for so when they do get voted why not just play it. As for length they seem to be slightly longer but Ive never seen one take an hour to finish, usually a normal map takes about 20 -30 min and under normal curcumstances you can add 5-10 min for an ONS map as long as there are a few people roaming the map.
I like ONS because I am not fighting someone 1 to 2 hundered levels higher than me to kill every creature that spawns. Its nice to line up on a creature and not have some on jump between you and It and take your shot away, or worse yet slide in front of you just as you let go your burst of 3 rockets killing you in the splash. I also like to have plenty of room to manuver, I tend to die when I can't dodge.

Despite the fact that I usualy die, I get more experiance on a ONS map than I see on one of the small 1 on 1 or 2 on 2 maps that a good number of the high score records are based on.

It is very annoying having the map that the majority voted in voted out before all of the players have finished downloading it. I could easily do the same thing, I usaully have to wait for all of the other players to load the map, but I consider that weasaly (sorry weasels).

As for lag from big maps, Im sorry, I have a very fast computer and It takes a lot to make me see my fps drop, but I don't vote for ONS very often, I do like to play on them ocasonaly.

Most of all, I hate being inundated with 5 rounds of 2 people complaining about the map when no one else is willing to vote it off.

please excuse me If this came off as a rant, It probably was, but don't take it personaly. It wasent meant that way.

What you're saying is true some times. Most lower leveled people play ONs and level up within the first ten waves from not having the monsters being swarmed by others before they can get a chance to kill it. Happens to me a lot as a medic. I try to kill a warlord or queen, and someone takes the kill while I am heailing either someone else or myself. The only thign I don't like is the size of most ONS maps. Too large means the monsters are scarce some times. They can all be in one place, and you wouldn't know any better. It can get annoying.

Well, if it's democracy in action for people to vote the maps while playing, it's also democracy in action to discuss likes and dislikes on the forum.

The fact is there is an endless stream of new players that are charmed by the "wow, that sounds cool" idea of ONS maps, which greatly contributes to them being voted, in my experience. By wave 10 on a map like ONS-Red Planet, during peak time, the server is down to 10 players as they slowly drop off.

So that wave of newbies learned they don't like Onslaught. Cue the next and repeat.

As many are saying, it's not the game type, it's the map size. When you can go a minute or two without seeing a single bug, or when the only weapon I use for the first five waves is the Lightning gun, to me something is wrong.

But I'm like Kitfox. I just drop off until it's done.

That is a good idea, but sometimes someone is all ready attacking that monster. The radar does halp a bit, but it still doesn't make the monsters any easier to find before they're all ready killed. How many times has this happened to anyone.
You're driving around on an ONS map that is pretty large when you spot a dot on your radar that seems likea good target. Near it is several other dots that are a mixture of blue and yellow. By the time you get there, all the monsters are dead and the others have all ready left with their EXP from the kills.
It keeps happening until you finally find a monster that isn't undr attack by anyone else. Once you attack it, you kill it and get the EXP from that kill, but you try to find others and can't for round after round. It ends only to find that you have a low score and EXP from lack of monster kills.
This happens all the time to me on large ONS maps. Smaller ones like Pacman are good because everyone is all together and fighting the monsters all in the same area without many that aren't spotted by someone to be killed by you or them.

Well particularly for me....i like ons maps......when i bought ut04 i started out playing ons 1st then dm then ctf then instagib then tam...after that invasion :D.........Usually I can get a lot of exp on ons maps coz of my manta and raptor driving skills and i can even compete for the high score against ppl that are level 100-300 with my mere level 50-60 weapon master.....for me it's a nice break from ppl with quickfoot and triple damage hogging all the kills in a regular invasion map......the little bug that escapes every now and then can be frustrating to find.....same with the fps drop and the lag but once its voted then i just play it.

I just wish Mysterial had kept working on that system where you'd earn score and adrenaline as you earn xp, by the damage you do to a monster and not by kills. He said he was working on it...before I stopped playing....in November 2004.

You want to play Bumper Cars some time Fro, look me up! I tend to have Raptor chicken wars with other people that have trouble finding monsters in Onslaught.

Then again, manta chicken tends to be more fun since there's the whole 'pancake' thing that's more than fun to do to -anything-, monsters and humans alike. :)
