my static filled mic

I was playing last night when my mic turned into a static filled mess... it happened mid game, ie-half of the map it was fine, but then the rest of the map my mic didn't work. I'm not sure what the problem is since I didn't change anything while i was playing. Normally I would go rush out and get a new mic, but this one is only two weeks old so I'm a little hesitent... any suggestions before I send it back to Logitech?
EDIT: One other question... I see that Logitech offers USB headsets, so is it better to buy that kind or the ones that use the mic jack? I know it'd be more convenient, but is there a difference in quality?
EDIT 2: Well I went to Officemax where I bought it and exchanged it for a new one... from what everyones saying it sounds as if nothing has changed so I think it's the microphone jack, not the headset.:( So would the USB headset fix this problem because it does not use this port? I'm hoping a USB mic would be a quick fix instead of having the microphone jack fixed... any thoughts?
