Artifact Denial

Idea for a new skill.

Artifact Denial (couldn't think of a better name)
Level 1 - Dont drop artifacts when you die. (You don't get to keep them but others can't pick yours up when you die)
Level 2 - Keep artifact that was showing when you die. (Obviously not for LA players)
Level 3 - Keep all artifacts you had in your possesion. (Again, not for LA players)

Maybe if 3 levels is too many than just do 1 and 2 or 1 and 3.
Since LA players have the option to keep weapons it seems fair play to offer the same chance for LW players to hang on to arts.

good idea for a skill. how would the cost be, same as denial? little more, little less? I feel like it should be a little costy, you know, it's more like luxury and not a necessity.

nah, i don't think so. if dru changes the whole thing so that no or only the current artifact drops, then LA would not oppose it i guess, but no one would go ahead and buy this skill.
i personally think dead LW players dropping all their + weapons is a better idea for the whole team.

Hey I never said I would use it to deny arts to people.

The bit about the dreaded triple getting around was a joke because someone had mentioned people getting it too easily when a LA player dies instead of relying on getting one by chance when they kill a monster.

And about them dropping their arts you guys are getting ahead of yourselves. Druid has yet to say anything on the matter in this forum. Unless he has said something on the server that no one has bothered to post here, then LA players will continue to be pinatas at the party.

Anyway, it can awlays be coded so that only LW players can use it. Or medics too. Haven't heard much about that class and artifacts yet.

Re:Artifact Denial

I would have to agree that either the LW folks should start dropping all their + weapons, or the LA folks drop only their current artifact (except perhaps the special LA-only artifacts). It has always bothered me that a LW player could have lots of + weapons, but when they die, they drop at most the current weapon, while the LA player has had terms like "pinata" applied to what they effectively become when they die. What is more, if a LW player purchases denial to get denial 2, so that they keep their fav weapon, they will end up dropping no weapons at all. While I like the idea of artifact denial as a skill, a LA player having to purchase even level 1 really would not do more than to continue this imballance, and so I would be more in favor of starting with fixing the artifacts to be like the weapons, where you only drop your current artifact, or v.v. and have all weapons dropped by default (and adding artifact denial).

Now, if we were to have LA players drop only their current artifact, there is still the question of what to drop if one of the LA specials was selected. Yes, we could have it so that you might drop that special MAX or MAX+1 artifact, but perhaps instead it should be a random selection of one of the others.

And in case you are wondering, when playing my LA character, I do hand out most of the artifacts if asked. The MWM and triple are very rare, but since a LA player must scroll through each of their artifacts (yet another imballance IMNSHO, since a LW player can press a key and go to almost any particular weapon), I almost never have the globe selected, and so I have often been handing it to medics very early in the game.

Of course, if LA players gained an action we could call "clone artifact" or "create artifact", where we would use some adren and a copy of the selected artifact would appear just as if we had dropped it, this would open an avenue where the LA player could do some non-killing action (just like with the medics healing) and gain XP. If this were to come about, I would then say that the chances of a bug dropping artifacts should be dramatically reduced. After all, when is the last time you saw a bug dropping a +5 weapon instead of a triple?? Been quite awhile, hasn't it?? And if we had this, and the ability to do multiple actions with a single key, I would be tempted to work up a sound pack with sounds like the cartoon chicken laying an egg, and play that when I created the artifact. :D

I like the chicken idea!. If LA players still drop all their artifacts maybe because they are thought of as pinatas, the tune "La Cucaracha" should play.

Re:Artifact Denial

I coined the pinata term. Now, as some of you know, I am a pinata, too. As a LW player, if I have a MWM, globe and triple, and then die, out pop all three. So LW players can be artifact pinatas too. On any given map, a high level LW player will be carrying good artifacts. Most high level LA players get denial 3 (which is like LW 1 on steroids, btw) and don't drop weapons for other players, period.

As a LW player, I have no problems with spacey's idea of LW players dropping weps. All weps might be a little nuts. But let's say I bought denial 2, I really don't care if my wep drops when I die. The main thing is keeping the good wep in the next wave. But if someone else also gets it? I think that's a good thing. I think that's the way denial SHOULD work on this server. On this server, we only use denial for 50% of its intended use, because part of the intent is player vs player. That's why I suggested way back that denial 1 should only cost 1 point.

Re:Artifact Denial

Ive been laughing and reading these forums for the past couple of months about the LW vs LA debate. I just want to add my 2 cents. Im so tired of ppl saying LW has such an advantage over LA. Im sure this has been said before but some people have selective reading skills so Ill say it again. Tell me how a LA player who has denial 3 and LA3 is at such a disadvantage. I for one as a LW player with LW5 will pass out any of my weps to a LA player and sometimes I even give them all my weps and commit suicide on the first wave or so. So with that being said that LA player now has all the weps and all the artifacts. He doesnt have vamp but he can play like a LW player and it doesn't matter if he dies because when he spawns next wave guess what he has all the weps and all the artifacts again. All I get is my one wep I died with and I hope I didnt have my trans out trying to escape when I died or I just lost my nice wep. Too bad Im not LA because even If I had my trans out I would still have that vorp shock and my triple when next wave starts. So If your one of the LA players who feels at a disadvantage and you see me playing just give me a yell. I'll gladly give you all my weps and commit suicide because it's just a game and I play because I enjoy it not for the score. Im not trying to point any fingers, but If this post upsets you then the shoe probably fits so put it on and play the game.

I think that Adrenaline Masters probably shouldn't spew their artifacts when they die, and I might do something about that before this code is released.

The reason that AM players can keep their weapons is that they have to spend so much time making them. If they respawn late in the game without them... ouch!

If a LW person shows up late in the game without a triple dam they can still play.

No - it's your perogative and personally I wasn't sure how I felt about this concept, which is why the normally verbal me wasn't so verbal on this thread.

As rarely as I see a Triple these days, I still think the pinata effect needs adjustment. However, I'd also ask that you might consider tweaking ever so slightly the chances of a monster popping something (and possibly upping the chance of a Triple coming out). Level it out a little - a monster doesn't need to pop multiple objects, but you could have more monsters popping out something ...

Though the above comment is more in regards to "how things stand now" - I'd have to see how things are once 190 is released and the changes to Flak, RL, and the addition of the damage bonus skill work out, to see if WM players still need the triple that much.

Well, that depends on late - I tend to have issues when I pop in after wave 12. But that's probably just cause I'm not warmed up, and partially because I have trouble with those waves sometimes anyway. But yes - I see your point and though my response has been "AM's keep all and I can't? Phooey!" that's more of a "Not fair cause I don't get it" rather than a "Not fair cause it's imbalanced", I guess I agree (though it probably doesn't matter that I do ;) ).
