Are you wondering what we like or what we play(ed)?

Well, I like soccer, football, rally racing, hockey, raquetball, mountain biking, and road biking. I used to play a lot of raquetball back in the day and I also played soccer at my junior college. I wanted to play when I got to the state college, but they wouldn't take walk-ons :( . I wanted to play football also in high school, but I was too small at the time. As a junior in high school, I was about 5'4" and weighed under 120 lbs. I had hands like glue and could run faster then most of the guys playing, though :D . I never brag about myself, but I honestly think I could of gone somewhere with football. Ummm, I just watch rally racing, I don't actually do it. However, it would be fun to do it!! Just not with my car, though. I wouldn't mind trying to race in a mountain biking or road biking event. I've done some training rides with some people who race in road biking events. They said that I would do pretty well in them. Not get first or anything, but do well. I've never played hockey, but it is fun to watch.

I love watching hockey and the SuperBowl. I like to watch drag races with my dad, he watches the funny cars every once in a while too.

I've always enjoyed playing baseball (or softball, I was a kick-butt pitcher in grade school) and was quite proud of myself when I pulled a 50 yard return in flag football in 8th grade. Real football is better though. I love to go mini golfing and bowling. Hacky sac is fun too (even though I suck). Racquetball is fun even though I have no coordination. I also like to bike, fly fish, hike, volleyball (not my favorite, but it's all right).

Thank heavens the whole hockey ordeal is over!

I don't like to watch sports unless I am in the stadium. Baseball is the exception to this rule as even in the stadium, its a boring game. Good thing they sell beer. Lately, I have found Rugby interesting to watch but I think it is only because I don't fully comprehend the rules yet.

I like sports better if I play. Did the HS football and track thing but that was a hunnert years ago (or so it seems) and the normal sports growing up.

My favorite sport is fraggin' bugs and I hope to see it in the Olymipics real soon. :D

Soccer. Too bad it really hasn't caught on in the US (it is better than 20 years ago, gotta admit). I'm taking a week off next year just to watch The Cup.

I like tennis too but haven't kept up with the pro's so the names aren't very familiar nowadays. Same with pro basketball - now I like college basket better.

Let's see - just now getting into American Football since one of my sons plays it... although I'm sure he'll be playing soccer next year - woohoo! ;)

As far as playing, I don't really excel at any sport (had real bad asthma when I was a kid and into my late teens) but I did pick up Aikido many many years ago and still like it.

Re:Sports

There are two different ways one could take this...sports in which we participate and sports we like to watch. Here goes...

On the participate side, I love cycling, swimming, and martial arts (details in a second). Scuba diving was something I really enjoyed in HS/college, but it has been too long for me to say that I participate in it. Likewise for competitive diving, which I did back when I was in ES, where I was more into the platform than the springboard. Then I like soccer, but my knees are not up to it much any longer.

On the watching side...I love soccer and hockey. While most folks think of Columbus, OH as being a cow-town, we do have our own NHL team (the Blue Jackets), and our own MLS team (The Crew) with our own dedicated soccer stadium (a rare thing). Unforunately, tickets are priced so that I cannot see going to games much, especially given the timing of the games and the need to get our 11yo home at a reasonable time during the school year. At times, I will also watch cycling, swimming/diving competitions, figure skating, or martial arts competitions. But I look at other pro sports like baseball, basketball and football as rather boring displays of a bunch of rich jerks out there showing off, with all too brief action thrown into a mostly boring couple of hours. I pretty much formed this after the Reds won several world series and got really cocky. And at the college level, it is not much different, except for the sallaries. The main exception is that I will watch Ohio State football games at times, and if they are doing well or playing Michigan, I am more likely to watch.

Now, I mentioned martial arts...I have a number of friends who have high level black belts in various styles and forms, and over the years, we did quite a bit of sparing, and I even helped teach a few self-defense classes. However, while I was up to things like breaks, blind sparring, and weapons to a degree, I never really got into formalized classes/testing. The main exception was with Kendo/Iaido, which I did in college. One other martial art which I enjoyed and spent quite a bit of time doing until my back injury was something referred to as "SCA Heavy Weapons" combat. While I could just give you a few links, instead I will give you a search phrase for Yahoo! If you enter the following exactly as given, including quotes, the first two are pics from a huge (11K+ people) event in Pennsylvania, and the third is one page from my old personal site. The search term is:

pennsic "Cinnion map Liuelin map Higuel"

It has been several years since I was able to do that, but a personal stretch goal for this summer is to get back into it and get re-authorized. And for those of you who have seen me circling in the game and such, it was the martial arts, especially the SCA combat, which taught me to circle ones opponent and never stand still. :D

Oh, and if you count racing...I like watching Indy racing (as well as the ones where they run the Indy cars through routes in cities), and am cheering on Danica and the rest of Team Rahal Letterman, which is from here in town as well! (their HQ is only about 4 miles from where I sit right now) :D

oh what a game, just watched the first game between the Sabres and Ottawa, which broke the record for quickest goals, most ties during the game, and most goals in under 2 minutes to play. It was a crazy game, watching the Sabres tie ottawa with 2 minutes left at 5-5 was great, however ottawa comes back to score with 1:32 left in the 3rd to make it 6-5. I was kind of down again that they may lose, but with 10 seconds left the sabres tie it to bring on overtime, Yes#:-S! And with 18 seconds into overtime they win the game, great game and comeback ! Is anyone else watching these series, this may be one of the best playoffs I've ever seen. :D

The Blackhawks are my team, but they are just brutal for the fans. The ownership is the worst in all of professional sports, the management is not much better and it's been ten years since we have had a star player. Oh and home games are blacked out in the Chicago market. Did I mention they suck? For going on ten years now. I love hockey but my team is killing me. I like Ottawa, but they picked up a real bum from the Blackhawks in Tyler Arnason, I would like the Preds but they murdered us this year, used to be a closet NorthStars fan, but Dallas whomped on us scoring 17 goals in two games.
