As I mentioned on the belwww mailing list, I am starting a thread here dealing with the local stats. I will again thank Druid for all the work he put in getting them working. I did some work with stats back in the UT2003 days, and found some serious problems with them. Perhaps Druid would be willing to share his experiences with getting them working here, so that folks like myself, Bob & Bob, and any other admins might see what sorts of things await us should we undertake that task ourselves.

As I said, I have worked a fair amount with server stats, and started using UTStatsDB back when it first came out. Things I noticed about it and stats in general include:

1) Between EPIC and the various folks working on stats for UT, nobody yet has fully fixed stats when it comes to bots. The core of this is that you don't get credit if you kill a bot, but you still get debited if you are killed by a bot. Net result is negative scores. Why it is taking so long for someone to fix this is beyond me. My 25+ years of programming tells me it should have been solved by now, and if I had experience with the guts of UT, I would have fixed it myself. (Perhaps I should do something about it). But this is one reason why servers which run bots do not log games to the stats servers.

2) Stats for INV are still massively broken, at least on the global stats. Because the monsters are essentially bots, my previous point comes into play. To see what I mean, pop up to the global stats pages and look at a game. The values for score, frags and many other fields are zero, or even worse, are negative. Kinda irritating (to me at least) that EPIC released INV, and even after all the work put into 2004, never managed to get their own stats servers properly handling INV. (AT LEAST DRUID HAS THIS FIXED! THANKS DRUID!! )

3) Player rankings (both global and local) are still very screwy IMNSHO! It does not take into account a number of factors which can affect your score. For example, you can join the game just in time for last wave, and get your ranking points hammered because you had a very low score. I have also seen cases where you can get hammered by joining right before the game ends, even if you did not get to play. One example of this is the game in BR-Colossus on Jan 25 @ 8:08PM. Acydreign rejoined just in time for what looks like a single wave, barely managed to kill something, and lost 192 of his 390 ranking points. Worse, there are times when you have players hammered when they could not play in that game due to joining too late, while other players who were in the game much longer and had low or negative scores did not loose as many, if any ranking points.

4) While not directly a part of stats, but very closely related, have you noticed how sometimes you are killed by a monster and yet it is counted as a suicide? I know there are times I have been surrounded by monsters and pounded instantly into a pulp, and yet when I press F3, I see that UT2K4 marked it up as a suicide. Unfortunately, this can count against you more than a simple death.

I would like to hear what other people think about the stats. But in summary, while I love to see the stats, there definitely are some limitations and the stats need to be taken with a grain or two of salt (or spice of your choice). Now if only our managers would do the same when doing performance reviews, where they look down on you for solving 5 hard problems and heap praise upon the person who solved 15 trivial ones.

Not me really. I just commented out a couple of lines from OLStats that were causing the server to derez when running a large assortment of mutators. If you're interested the crosspost for this is here

I wish I could do more about this. See the crossposting and please add comments here and also the global stats posting here

This sounds like something that should get posted over on the OLStats forum to get sorted out, since it's actually getting logged that way, and not a utstatsdb bug.

Also, the Player 0 that is appearing in stats should probably be addressed. See the positng and add comments if you wish on OLStats Post and UT Stats DB Post.

The fundamental problem is this: The first word we learn as children is NO. From that point forward society teaches women that saying no isn't polite, and society teaches men to respect those who wont take no for an answer.

I would personally like to thank Dru for getting the stats up and running. It adds an entire new dimension to the game, gives you something else to work at or compete at. What is the difference between Frags and Kills? As a whole the stats pages are a terrific addition tho the Disastrous Consequences repertoire that further seperates it from the rest of the pack. Thanks again Dru!

AFAIK, kills are your number of kills, frags are your number of kills minus your suicides.

I don't think thats it cloud, because I have with the Redeemer
2201 Frags and 2234 Kills which would seem to make sense by your definition, but with the Flak Cannon I have 1997 Frags and 1658 Kills.
The larger number flip flops for me on almost everyother weapon, so I dont think that is it, one category should always be equal or bigger.

You have 1658 Flak primary kills and 341 Flak secondary kills. Take that in to account, and you notice the numbers will match up much more nicely.

Want to see how screwy the rankings can be...take a look at this:

http://www.disastrousconsequences.com/dcstats/matchstats.php?match=524

This is for a game where I joined during the last minute and never spawned. Talk about getting hammered on the stats!
