well guys, today i tried to install again ut2k4, sadly didnt find my cd's

and well you know how the stoy goes, i went to the internet and try to do something not entirely legal ( well sorth of, since i already pay for the game)
i went some places that im ashame, but no luck. i got kicked due serial code ( i guess)

there is no chance to know what my serial was right? i uninstalled the game compleatly and didnt write the code :S (how dumb of me)

so the question is, do im screwed? or there is some fix besides looking in every corner of my bedroom?

Alice and the Hatter: Quotes: Alice in Wonderland
Alice: What a funny watch! It tells the day of the month, and it doesn't tell what o'clock it is!
The Hatter: Why should it? Does your watch tell you what year it is?
Alice: Of course not, but that's because it stays the same year for such a long time together.
The Hatter: …which is just the case with mine.

Look in every corner of the house. No cd key, no play. If you buy a new game, you will have to start all over again.

If you cant find it, a replacement for a 9 year old game should be really cheap. Good luck!

Do you still have a computer with UT2004 installed? You can retrieve your CD key from the registry. Or maybe if you just deleted it from you computer, it might still be there.

It should be under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Unreal Technology\Installed Apps\UT2004

Otherwise, UT2004 is only 5 dollars on gog.com right now. And it's DRM-free.

Problem is, if he uses a different Cd key, he will have to start all over--and have the "inposter" tag on his name.

True, but it is trivial for an admin with FTP access to the server to change his old characters to use the new GUID generated by his new CD key.

Only Dru and Shan can do that on this server and they have not been on for quite some time.

Look on the bright side: it might be fun to start over and level up again. Maybe.

Wow, that is really disappointing. It would be great to have someone like yourself be given admin duties. If Dru or Shan are not around, who is running the show?

I would have to assume that without an admin, the whole server could just go away at any time. After all, who is paying the bills?

There are different levels of administration. Demon has the rights to perform his duties as Dru had deemed necessary to fulfill the position. There are 2 rules in IT security at work here. First, the Principle of least privilege ( meaning, the minimum amount of rights to perform you job). Second is, Separation of Duties (meaning, nobody has full access to do everything.) This ensures that nobody can do things, and have the rights to be able to cover their tracks...and other things. But since Demon is the only one (that I know of) that is actively performing these duties, this is exactly how it has to be. Limiting, yes...unless Dru feels necessary to change them otherwise.

There is also a Third Rule--Distance. Distance means the Rules #1 and #2 are necessary and required since the "owners" of the server cannot meet with the administrators "at will". The server is located in Salt Lake City metro area and I'm in the Denver metro area. We "have" administrators in Florida, New England, New York, and other area of the country and as such, we cannot meet at will. Oversight is very important with distance.

If the server owners and administrators were close together, usually there would be more duties for the administrators and lesser amount of oversight since there would be meetings.

Webadmin access is pretty basic, and doesn't allow for much beside switching maps and game modes, and banning/unbanning players. I assume that's the only access the admins have here.

The real power to change and set up things, and fix issues like changing Hatter's RPG characters, is having access to the server files via FTP and access to the control panel to configure and start/stop the server. As far as I know, only Druid and Shantara have access to that. As a server owner myself, I understand the potential chaos giving people access to the functions could cause. So if they were to give someone access, it would definitely need to be someone they trust implicitly.

As a result, things like configuring monster waves, adding new maps, updating the RPG system and configuration can't be done without their direct involvement.

But the server will continue to function as long as the bills are paid. Just without any updates or adjustments.

I bought "unreal anthology" recently for AU$20 and installed that to natively Linux Debian Wheezy 7.0 (without wine) and it runs fine.

Are you really saying you cannot afford a new key for $20?

+1 the advice for looking in the registry, I've done that in the past.

What DC said about the imposter thing, can't you just get an admin to fix the ini file and restart the server. I've seen it done.
