Here it is as promised, a short clip of the false finale from the Thunder Over Louisville Fireworks display that Steelace and I went to last weekend. It's the largest fireworks display in North America. It's amateur video and compressed so don't expect to much. If you have a subwoofer, CRANK IT UP!
I will be posting a few more over the next couple of weeks.

Description This is a 35 second clip of the finale taken with my Olympus C-770 Ultra Zoom. Not a video camera but it does take mpeg4 video. This clip is not as fuzzy as the last and it's taken from a better vantage point. ENJOY!!!!!

WOW, that's freaking awesome. I wish somebody would put together a fireworks show that big in Utah. Is all that for a certain celebration or just for fun?

PS> The video was fine...I bet it's even better standing right there though!

Hey Oke Steelace and I are pyrotechnicians as well, we work on several shows a year. Also, Thunder over Louisville is an annual fireworks show that starts the season for the Kentucky Derby. Really cool airshow before the fireworks to, not many airshows are actually held right over downtown.

Hey Pyra, FYI, to paraphrase from the Thunder over Louisville web site:

To assemble a show the size of Thunder, Zambelli Internationale utilizes eight tractor trailers filled with nearly 60 tons of fireworks shells. The physical set-up includes 250 tons of launching tubes, some as high as 10 feet with a diameter of 1 and 1/2 feet. Two million pounds of sand will pack the firing tubes on 1,800 feet of barges. Almost 700 miles of wire cable connecting 20 firing boards are tied to the command post for synchronization to the music. This is the largest show the Zambellis perform each year and the Zambellis are the largest fireworks family in the world.

Hmmmmm........Sounds almost as good as our annual RanchBlast show!

BTW, the airshow was awesome; the inclement weather forced a lot of aircraft to fly much lower than normal. The B-2 Stealth is definitely something right out of a sci-fi book, and you can put the emphasis on stealth; you won't hear it until it's already passed by. Simply incredible.

There is no problem that cannot be solved by the use of high explosives.

WOW, thanks SteelAce... 700 miles is impressive and those launching tubes!! It's amazing to think of what goes into these shows. I'm sure it's a lot of work just to get every wire correctly working, can't imagine that headache. But you can tell that a lot of work was put into a show like this, thanks again for those mind numbing facts!

That's horrible.

Here's a dumb question. I believe one of you guys out there is a pyrotechnician....I apologize for not remembering which one exactly. Isn't it impossible or hard to put out a fuse on a firework? You always see Wile E. Coyote in cartoons never being able to do it, even after cutting off the end when the end connected to the firework lights itself out of nowhere. (Yes, I know cartoons aren't real.)

I've never gotten to play with fireworks before. It'd be fun to light some of the big ones off. (Yes, I know play is the wrong word.)

Steelace and I are both pyrotechnicians during the fourth of July season. You can cut off the green visco fuse(common fuse on most fireworks you can buy without a license), but I highly recommend against trying. The fuse on professional pyro typically burns at 60 feet a second so probably a no on that one. Green Visco fuse is waterproof, and quickmatch(professional fuse) is encased in thick water resistant paper. I would also suggest not trying to stomp out a fuse as this may actually cause the fuse to burn faster.

Wow, cant believe I hadn't heard about that dcs. I actually do work in that area. What an idiot, it's people like that who are gonna permanently mess it up for the rest of us. Illinois LOVES kneejerk laws.
