Well Ive checked the forums since 2 months ago and It looks kinda dead talking about next build release and updates, Did Szlat quit? Or what happened couse It has been almost 6 months and nothing new.

Im kinda worried about this couse the last post of Szlat regarding Changes submitted to version 226 was in 10/18/2010 and no new updates, that build has a lot of potential balancing classes. I hope it gets soon to the server that would be a nice present for Xmas for all of us !!! =D

I hope everything is ok..

Builds occur as and when Druid wants to.

Thinking about it. Having so long between builds takes all the fun out of it from a development perspective. I want to make changes and have them running within a day or so.
So have the discussion on the forum about what to do, implement, and run live on DC within a week - that would be my preference. Then everyone understands better what has changed and why, and feels more a part of the process. At the moment, when a build occurs, no-one can remember what changed or why - myself included.

The client crashing bug is another example - I want to fix it but at one attempt every three months it takes way too long.

+1

I think it's safe to say most of the regulars - the people who play here regularly, or used to - feel the same way.

In a similar vein, I've asked nicely to have maps tested over the last year or so. They added a bunch about a year and a half ago true, but people get bored of old maps, and as a mapper, I'd like to see my stuff evaluated for addition to the server in a reasonable timeframe.

Sorry Dom, but keeping DC updated does not appear to be a priority for them. We all know there's Real Lifeā„¢ to deal with, but they should either make an effort be more involved, or pick someone to do these things for them.

I understand Druid and Shantara wanting to keep control over their server and their project - that's fine and I'm not suggesting they abandon it, nor give total control to someone else. However, I do think that they should let Szlat or whoever may be qualified and interested (and that they trust) the ability to continue development and make adjustments to the server without having to wait months for them to take action on updates.

Yeah Jefe that sounds really good to me.

I would like to vote to give Szlat a chance to make the build upgrades on the server but I am not the owner of DC Im just a regular playa , I bet he has put a lot of effort in making builds fun each release, so give him command on the server to make the changes will be ok. I think Druid and Shantara should give him a chance, I dont think he will do bad things to the server I really think he is not that type, instead He will benefit the server a lot doing upgrades each time it requires.

Just my 2 cents

But let's not get too negative here. All thanks to Druid and Shantara for providing the server in the first place, and the time and commitment they have put in over the years.

I agree. I've been playing online since a bunch of you were just out of diapers and I can list on one hand the servers, UT/UT2003/UT2004, that are still around today.

Needless to say, I understand your frustrations and concerns. I too would like to see some of the mods on the boards come out for testing/review, namely the UT3 side of the server, but like Dru and Shan, I'm a bit of a perfectionist and would not be happy with the problems with a rushed mod of any type.

Another thing that I would like to point out is the costs associated with running servers. For upkeep, repair, and replacement, not to mention the power/bandwidth costs, it's expensive. For the most part, Dru and Shan have borne the costs on their own dime, with a little help from the contributors, to give to the gaming community a FREE access server.

On another note:

As a matter of fact, December 2010 marks the 6th birthday of Disastrous Consequences and it has grown from a little 7 player server to what it is today.

Of course, I don't deny that keeping the server running all these years isn't an accomplishment in and of itself. Still this is a nearly 7-year-old game with a dwindling player base. Delaying things like simple bug fixes doesn't exactly help keep players interested in the server - nor is it rewarding for the people who have donated toward server upkeep. It is frustrating for all.
