Ideas for new mall-themed map  XML

I started on a new map that I thought would be good for invasion. The theme is a mall, and I'd like some ideas for various shops and their logos. Just various oddball things that might appear in the unreal universe.
If you want to design a logo yourself, I need it in a size like 1024x128 or 256x256 or 512x512. Here are a few I've come up with:

how about you stab 'em we slab 'em meat shop? or the DC Bar & Grill you could make a gunsmith/weapons store full of ammo and weapons or a health food store full of healthy items that heal you.... make it big enough for some vehicles and have a repair garage that fix's them!

I may be getting old and falling apart but I can sure can raise Hell and have fun doing it!

I like that DC bar and grill idea. The gunstore and heath foods are both good ones too. The map will definitely have room for vehicles.

Yeah, just don't go too crazy, like 3 or 4 frames would be good. 1024x128 (or 512x64, but I can resize if it needs to be smaller) would prolly be best for an overhead sign. I could also use some 512x512 or 256x256 ads for the center walkway.

Here's are screens so you can get an idea of the basic proportions (the "statues" are just to provide a sense of scale. The hellbender is half-sized, one of those coin-operated kiddie rides.) I'm still very early into building the layout so expect it to change a lot from this. Needless to say it will have skylights and look a lot nicer.

Gap for cylons is pretty funny actually. I had already put in "CRAMP" as the GAP (I had it as "the CRAP" before but my son didn't like it )

any thoughts for music?
I'm thinking of recording some stuff ,as soon as my new guitar arrives .
Have a cool drum program , was thinking like Dick Dale meets Megadeth Heavy Metal surf

tribal drums with a coupla riffs over the top repetitive of course maybe 2 to 3 minutes long then loops back, big echo/phasey guitar

Gotta have a Mc Deaths franchise in there serving up the Big Frag burger or something like that. A few games stores. Two words: FOOD COURT!
MMmmmmm....cinnibons...

Possibly a central fountain or exhibit. Maybe incorporate the flying saucer.
For signs on the mall floor..like the mall map with a You Are Here with Skull and Crossbones for that location.
What do we want to name the mall? This way we can incorporate it into some of the artwork.

Could incorporate a movie theater as well. Now Playing: Dirty Harry Potter ...or something.

I'll have to go looking for logos and such and fire up my photoshop as well.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. Seers is definitely awesome. Maybe Warm Subject as the Hot Topic alternative... and the tag line from that link is hilarious (KoL in general is hilarious. ) Oh and for the motto on Flak Shak: You've got Questions. We've got Flak Cannons.

Also it would help if there were a little more white space around the edges so I can use the logos on surfaces that are a little shorter or longer 1024x128.

I do plan to put a fountain, but I'm not going to put in any fancy fx, since those are a real fps hit for most people. Also another thing I'm worried about is if i put too many meshes and textures in the map it will turn into something too bloated for invasion play. So I had an idea. I'll play with the cliche you see on soooo many map descriptions-- "Purchased by Liandri Corp because this arena is so awesometastic" and I'll put little flyers all over saying mall tenants have 30 days to vacate. Proving yet again that Liandri has more money than sense.

Road, I could use your help in designing a few static meshes. I'm trying to find ones from stock content or other maps that I can use w/permission, but likely I'll need a few things here and there.

I also put together an info kiosk design. Once I've gotten farther into the map, I'll start working on secrets, but one I thought of was a kiosk that opens to reveal a DD, or maybe a coke machine that does that.

love the take on sears! since i work there!

next question is is it a strait line mall or one that has corners to go around? there's a few mall's in OC that are like that..i'm thinking of the south coast plaza and the westminster mall and they both of lvls meaning 2 floors or more...the westminster mall has a food court thats a big depression so the ceiling is like 4 stories up


WAIT!!!! have a MONSTER energy drink machine that opens up with something in side!!!!..sometimes health or DD or maybe a critter! or even a deemer

you could try and code in the duke nuke'em thing where you go into a bathroom and use it and get healed some... would be a riot to see someone or a critter to come out with TP stuck to foot also!!!

could also choose your favorite cell phone company and spoof their name too have a jacob in the box and have a body in a casket and have diff types of caskets and sizes like real small ones for the blown apart to something for the ones that get nuked and are radioactive!


and the music..I got it turned off..(shrugs) it masks the sounds critters make moving around

Yeah, I've looked at a lot of mall designs. I haven't decided yet if I'm going to make it a ring or square shape or build it into the more traditional (for malls anyway) L or U shape, a compact maze, or just long-corridor style. A ring has better flow in terms of gameplay, especially DM. A ring also creates the opportunity to have shortcuts and multiple paths through the center. The L/corridor style is a bit more authentic and would probably work well on this server. There are several popular maps on here like Hall of Anubis which are essentially one large hallway.

I am planning on it being a single story. I'm also not making one of the flamboyant, upscale malls either - just a run of the mill everytown style mall.

More good ideas. I obviously won't be able to include all the suggestions, but I'll be sure to use some (and give credit in the readme.) As for music, and I've said this many times before, if you play with no music, that's absolutely fine. But it's a mapper's responsibility to create an atmosphere and to at least pick an appropriate track for the map for those who do use the in-game music. This is as simple as typing a song name in the map's level properties - but if the mapper doesn't, then it can't have its own music without breaking online compatibility for the map.
