Saving subclass data  XML

Now F8_AL and I were thinking about this idea about builds that could save subclass data for each character. For example every 100 levels you would unlock 1 build or caste or however you may call it, this build will save the data of 1 of your subclasses. So say you chose to save the data on an Extreme WM and you are currently playing the Skilled Weapons subclass, you would click on the build button and click on the specified subclass and it would automatically reconnect you with all the data saved and you would be an Extreme WM. So the max would be around level 300 where you can make up to 3 builds per class. This would save time, usually I find myself reconnecting twice or up to 3 times since sometimes the artifacts dont show or the weapons are all loaded weapons level 1 when I had already bought level 5. This button could go right above the info button and below the sell button. Is this possible?

If anyone has played call of duty, it would work like the "loadout" menu where you save your wargear and perks.

Watching elite play, it takes him between 2-4 waves to rebuild his class, which i think is quite a long time.

I do not want to make it quick to change subclasses. The thought is to add variety, so you can play one day as this subclass, and the next day or week as a different subclass. I do not want to encourage people to use subclasses as an exploit, and change multiple times during a map.

If that is occurring, I might need to put add a timer so you can only change once a week.

No that is not happening, it is not possible to switch subclasses between waves it would take too long. What we are saying is reducing the time it takes to switch subclasses because according to the maps we play we might choose different subclasses according to the terrain that best suits a certain subclass. No exploits here just a small change that would benefit many

That's a great idea, save the hassle of buying every single skill and trying to stay alive at the same time, only to find out that at the end of your buying, the map is already on wave 3 !

Saving your character data is not an exploit, it is convenience. Current normal data for all the classes get saved right? AM, WM, etc. We're not calling that an exploit are we? Uhmm

Variety as I understand is the freedom to play different characters with unique skills anytime you want. Constraints on when and how often you play your character is a little too much control IMHO. No hard feelings to anyone is meant by my opinion. It just seems that all these "controls" are getting on the silly side.

Actually I agree with Szlat , though it would be a nice addition
If you want to play a different style character for a map change to a different character that's what I do
Because what will happen is someone is going to start changing extreme classes for particular waves and be a totally dominating force wave in and wave out
and that tends to be detrimental to others enjoyment here
I'll admit I don't like the process of changing Sub/Extreme classes myself (it is cumbersome) but I enjoy having the new options they bring.
Remember most people can't access these classes yet and we didn't have them at all not so long ago!

well if they wanna grip about it they can always just cancel the sub classes

hehehehehehehehe!

I may be getting old and falling apart but I can sure can raise Hell and have fun doing it!

i agree that actaully being able to change class throughout the map multiple times would be a bad thing, but for classes like the engineer, it is sometimes essential to change at the start of the map. For example, if i was playing as an extreme vehicles subclass, and a very small map was picked, it would be unfair for the engineer to have to play as that subclass. He may be unable to spawn any vehicles bigger than a scorpion. this would not be fair.

Why not create the "builds" menu, but put a limit on one change per map? stopping people exploit it.

I think it's a good idea. But the fear of exploiting should make us ponder about how to avoid them. So F8_AL has a good idea about it...I was thinking the same thing by the time I read his post. It should be limited to once per map. I was thinking maybe only during wave 1, but that wouldn't be fair to people who join in later waves.. So I think a 1 time per map would be a good safeguard against exploits. Now....this is the menu function only. Once used, it grays out and cant be used till next map. If someone finds that they didn't like the change they chose, then they can always change again, but have to do it the long way as we have to do now.

I could not agree more that changing subclasses more than once in a map would be inappropriate and exploitative. I know Elite is only concerned with the time it takes to make the change and not about exploiting that by changing multiple times in a map.

No way can that be allowed, if a limit can be initiated to limit changing subclasses to once per map max but speed the process up, I think that would work well.

I am ultimately very lazy when I get on DC. I just want to play, that's why I seldom, if ever, change subclasses. It takes too long. If it was a quick process I would experiment a whole lot more.

You could even limit players so they can only change subclasses using the menu in the first wave they are alive which would totally eliminate any form of exploit.

counter point you join and die immediately and respawn next wave you just lost your change up allowance

Tracking of this will definitely be server based, so if someone disconnects after doing a switch it wont reset the button. But the once per map thing should add the convenience without the compromises of exploits.
